I'm a cheating SOB, there's no way you can make that voice dictation say these kinds of things. Actually, that was voice dictation, no editing.

If there is a way to send destinations from your phone to the built-in Nav system then sure there is no difference. Other than the fact that you now using a seven year old map database unless you have been shelling out money on a regular basis to keep it updated.

I have been using Garmins since the GPS II Plus in 1997 and what I like is the portability from one car to another. And I can enter destinations while I am still in my house (or hotel, or sitting in a restaurant) I don't have to wait until I am sitting in the car to enter my destinations. When I get in the car I like to get going not spend time programming destinations into the Nav. I even have a Garmin software that let's me transfer my collection of destinations from one Garmin to another any time I upgrade. Only drawback to the Garmin is dealing with mounting it on the dash, and having the 12V cable dangling down and sometimes getting in the way. Android Auto combines the portability of a Garmin with the convenience of using the built-in display and audio.

I updated my maps last year actually, it works pretty well. I haven't used a standalone GPS for a long time. I don't do a lot of traveling, so my needs are small, I mainly just go to work and back and maybe lunch...

I thought more about it and I'd pay for an Audible app, so I voted to have carplay too. :)

I thought Lexus had that functionality with their Lexus Enform units (starting from.... maybe 5 years ago?).

Looks like to get that you have to pay an additional $135 per year on top of the basic ENFORM functions. Probably because it includes the option of having a live operator find the destination for you.

    164.89*/YEAR

    • SAFETY CONNECT
    • SERVICE CONNECT

    $299.90*/YEAR

How old is that? Entune used to have a subscription too but then it was free (probably rolled it into the cost of the vehicle like Tesla and the supercharger). Entune includes a live operator too, no? (Destination Assist)

It's from the Lexus website - first year of Enform is free, then you pay depending on how many of the services you want to continue with

The Prime Advanced offers a service called Toyota Safety Connect that is free for 3 years. It includes Stolen Vehicle Locator as well as Emergency Assistance, and Automatic Collision Notification, accessed by pushing a button under a cover in the overhead. Active Connect is 3 year complimentary subscription for Prime which permits Remote Charge monitoring, gas station locator, Car Locator, etc. More info is in the brochure fine print. It appears that Entune, basic, is still complimentary.

    Excellent thanks!

Looks like all that stuff is coming to Entune 3.0 for Toyota vehicles.

Ahh I see. Active Connect is the one that requires the Safety Connect subscription, right?

Sorry, Mr. Tideland. I read the info from the brochure which uses microprinting with footnotes and is pretty confusing anyway. All I finally got out of the footnotes is that I have all those extras on my Advanced for at least 3 years for free. Unfortunately, I have trouble figuring out under which umbrella a particular benefit is provided.
If you look at the brochure, you'll probably understand my frustration. My eyes just can't read that stuff!!
If I can muster the enthusiasm, I'll try the manuals or other sources.

Does Android auto work well with an iPhone and does Apple carplay work well with an Android phone? If not, I vote against either. I don't want my car choice to dictate what brand of phone I buy.

Wondering about Carplay and Android Auto susceptibility to hacking. Perhaps Toyota Entune is more secure to protect the complex control systems used in the Prime?? Could someone hack into the Prime settings through the entertainment/map system and cause trouble.. Just a thought, I have no expertise in that area.

    That's ok :) I appreciate your help!

Further reading, it appears Active Connect will be called Remote Connect when Entune 3.0 arrives. Safety Connect has a 1 year complimentary subscription service for Toyotas. BUT Prime Apps have a 3-year complimentary subscription. I'm not sure if that means Safety Connect is a 3-year complimentary subscription for Prime Advanced owners.

    Roadside assistance is 3 years.

Do you have any idea when Entune 3.0 will be out?

    Thanks, buddy!
Now will they offer an update for existing Primes, if the owners want it?

And, I just checked the brochure which does indicate in at least two places that Safety Connect is free for Prius Prime Advanced owners for three years.

I hope so. I really don't use Entune the way it is now.
