Moisture underneath throttle body

It's normal to have a little oil in there. How often do you change your oil? Looks really dark

It is an artifact of the Atkinson Cycle engine. The intake valves stay open late so fuel-air mixture flows back out into the intake manifold, perhaps even beyond the throttle body. This is much slower than the fuel-air mixture going into the engine so fuel 'falls out' of the mixture and puddles at the bottom of the intake manifold. Nothing is wrong.

 

Or not... It's always gonna find it's way back there again, anyway. I mop it up when I clean the throttle body, as do many around here, but it's kind of silly to when you think about it. Atkinson weirdness is what it is.

 

Thanks to all who explained this. I've noticed this too, figured it was normal, but no clue how it got there.

 

There's more than just oil in there. Is that left-over gunk from the throttle cleaning?

Mine always has a small puddle of clean engine oil and I leave it alone.

 

I've only cleaned throttle body throat with a carb cleaner moistened cloth, still see that dark pool down there.

 

Yep that's dealer vat oil. The worst. Black burnt gunk. The car always has a pool of oil in the bottom of the TB.
Don't bother cleaning it. The color of the oil will reflect the quality if the oil.

Btw it's an almost certainty the car eats oil. Keep careful eye on oil level till u get a handle on how bad it is,
Check the oil every few days before u start the car in the morning. That will reflect true level. If u roll into gas station and pull the dipstick it will always read a little low lots of oil stored in top of engine for the VVT system.
Takes a while to drain back. Keep oil at full mark always.
