ScanGauge II on a Prime, still useful?

I'm addressing this mostly to current Prime owners that were also previous Gen owners that actively used a SanGauge II for hypermiling, like me. See my sig for my mpg exploits.

I currently drive a 2010 Prius II and have a 2017 Prime Advanced on order. My trusty ScanGauge II has old version 3.17 firmware. I can send it in and update it to version 4.x for $25.00 and gain more current Xgauges and code pulling ability, but I'm wondering if it's really that useful on a Prime Advanced with the info that it now provides?

I'm very aware of and impressed with some of the Smart phone based ODB scanners but I don't own them, I do own a ScanGauge. I appreciate your time and responses.

I am in a similar situation: I own two Scangauge II which I use with satisfaction with my Lexus RX450h (MY2010), In prevision of the arrival of my Prime, sometime ago I sent both units to Germany for the firmware upgrade (basically my Scangauges mothernoard was replaced with a new one) so I am ready.
Let's hope that some Xgauge guru will discover the Prius Prime specific Xgauges soon (SOC and AMP primarily, but also BATTERY TEMP and MG1/2 TEMP are to be considered.

Thanks. I suppose I can still monitor SOC and a few others on the Prime just like I do on my 2010. If nothing else, it will allow me to pull more recent codes.

Aren't even the built in scan gauge functions subject to being out of date, with a new gen? Not sure. (n)

That's exactly what I'm wondering and why I was looking for someone that's done this to let us know. I'm leaning towards updating just to get the new codes ability for all vehicles. I'm sure the Xgauges are new. I wish ScanGauge would publish a firmware change list.

I've decided to send it in and update its firmware.

I have the Carista OBD adapter (bought to update the settings), and then bought the app "OBD Fusion" as it got the best of ratings on the App store ... while it does communicate with the Carista, some parameters work, others don't. Have not had the time to get into the detail yet though but if my interest peeks again (and i have the time) i might tackle it again

  11. What about the battery current? Where Bta would be back on my Prius c, the Bta X-gauge shows up as blank on my Prime, so which should I use? As far as I can tell, my firmware is up to date version 4.43

When I found my second ScanGauge-II (which I purchased on eBay) had old firmware, I called Linear-Logic to arrange an upgrade, and LL said just give us your mailing address, and we'll send you a new chip for free! …so I did just that they did just that, and within a couple of days, arrived in the mail a new board, which was a doddle for me to swap (my original training was in electronics, and I was quite familiar with small circuit-boards and soldering etc. etc.) - so here's a shout out for Linear-Logic! So both of my SG-IIs now have the latest firmware and LL didn't charge me a single cent! ;)(y)

I do that and occasionally it double posts anyway :(
    Thanks for the reminder though.

  17. On my Prius c, I set my ScanGauge II sleep even to COM, so that when I keep the car running, it would stay on, and would turn off only after I pressed the power button on the car.

With my Prime, ScanGauge II does not turn off when sleep event is set to COM. Changing the sleep event to VOLT, ScanGauge II will sometimes turn off when my Prime goes into EV.

Anyway to fix this other than getting into the habit of physically connecting/disconnecting the cable? I worry that one day I'll forget and it'll drain the 12V battery.

Also, any word on how to get the traction battery voltage? (Gen4 codes didn't work for me)

Prime is quite different from PHV. None of the handy pids on my scangauge worked on the upgrade. Sadly, the ones haven't been made available yet either. Knowing things like motor RPM and battery temp can be very informative.
