Oil consumption

    Just low pressure, and reports here are usually along the lines of: "started noticing this oil light, and when I checked there was no oil on the dipstick".

    That explains very high oil consumption, or blown engines after the red light comes on.

    High oil consumption is already there, that causes the low oil pressure light to come on, Running the car with low oil level causes engine damage.

    If the car uses a quart of oil in 2000 miles, it's not a big deal, unless you let it run out of oil. You just need to check the oil every few weeks, and add a quart when it gets down to the add mark. Kind of like the 1950 Plymouth I drove while in high school, only it burned a quart in 300 miles.
