    Hello!
Please apologise if i get this wrong but checked forum and never found similar problem.
Other car hit side of my prius 16.
The problem is that i cant start my engine Dashboard lit up and radio but not engine.
Damaged is not big, no hit of the engine, just drivers front doors.
Could it be that main computer blocks the engine, so nobody gets hurt?

Cant contact any toyota shop near me as it is long free weekend down here.

Wonder if any of you guys had similar problems?

I don’t have any specific knowledge about the 2016 Prius, but until someone smarter than me replies, you may wish to google “fuel pump cut off switch”.

It could be the DOOR OPEN sensor, and it thinks the door is OPEN.

If I try to put mine into gear with the door ajar, it will BEEEEEP at me, and give a warning message, but will actually drive while Beeping.

BUT - because TOYOTA has so many versions of the software in different areas of the world - maybe yours locks it from going into gear? Is there another PriusChat member in Poland?

    Thanks for replies guys!
The car was hit by side. No front damaged.
Dashboard lit up but engine not
Thinking that perhaps computer blocks it? Dont know if there is such system...

Unfortunately, prius is not popular in Poland, honestly.
Myself and my wife love it so much! This is great car!

You picture shows the car thinks the left front door is open. The car software may prevent normal driving until it senses all doors closed.

Can you slam your door hard so the sensor goes off?

They are likely using translation software. The goal is to satisfy the door alert. We do not want the sensor to fall off.

Sorry to hear of your problem @dziadek1818 , but I think the open door indicator is one thing. The crash could very well have tripped the fuel cut off as pilotgrrl said and no fuel reaching the engine is the most likely reason it does not start. I hope you can get it fixed soon, and Welcome to Prius Chat! (y)

The Prius may not be programmed to start the engine if it detects there is no fuel pressure. That may be why it does not start. Anyway, you are welcome to ask again if problem cannot be fixed. Please let us know how you get on. :)

The engine is only started by the electric motor, using the 200V battery through the inverter. It will only -be- started if the computers think it's ok to do so. If you are moving the system still uses the 200V battery, but in this case it will "lock" the electric motor to turn over the engine using vehicle motion. There really is no difference between the two cases, you still need the computers to be happy everything is ready.

There is supposed to be a switch that can be manually reset to get the car out of "crash standby", but I don't know where it is. A Toyota dealer should.

I didn't realise that Airbags had deployed.

I wouldn't be surprised if deploying Airbags could disable the car- intentionally. I remember reading about a car (VW??) which applied the brakes if airbags deploy, so the car won't continue to keep rolling out of control. Not sure if TOYOTA has some other system.

Do European models have seat belt pretensioners? Those might need to be replaced, if applicable.

Can you get to the repair manuals on toyota-tech.eu ? The site should be online even on the weekend, I would think.

The manuals should tell you what safeties may have been tripped, how to identify them and what to do.

Well, mine has from 2016 but haven't checked recently. Don't think it's the kind of feature they'd drop without good reason.

In the U.S., that definitely means the car won't start until it is repaired.
