Oil Catch Can, Eliminate that knock!

    I really want to install OCC but I after reading 12 pages I'm still not sure how to put it together and don't know how The line will connect from the PCV valve to the OCC.
    definitely I would like to install that while I am in there to clean the egv cooler.
    Can someone post a link or tell me exactly what I have the parts needed to put this together so I can go ahead and order the parts.
    Most of the work I do after watching the videos so this one without the videos making me nervous.

    You could theoretically eliminate the original hose, but there's a wrinkle: it's 3/8" ID at the PCV valve, and maybe 3/4" ID at the intake manifold, it flares out at the latter. I might still do that, if I could find some sort of adapter. But anyway, just cutting the original hose at the middle, you have two nice elbows.

    Thanks for the diagram. So it means I can still keep the original lines. Need to cut them in the middle and insert them into the new OCC.
    Do I need any adapter to insert them at the OCC.
    Do you think the original line will work if I cut it in the middle?
    Which OCC need to order. I already saw many of them on the entire thread and I think 1st post OCC is reasonably priced compare to the rest.
    Also if I use the original lines can I access the OCC easily? How often do I need to clean it?
    What are the mounting options with the use of stock lines?
    Sorry to ask so many questions. I am trying to do it right because I really need my Prius.

    Look at my last picture. I've retained the original hose (cut in half) and added extension to each, with 3/8" brass hose barb and airplane clamps. The extension is a 3/8" ID rubber hose fuel line that was supplied with the OCC I bought. It's really up to you though: you can use just replacement 3/8" hose EXCEPT the spigot at the intake manifold is bigger, I think 3/4" ID. It's up to you to address this. For now I opted to go per the picture, keep the original hose at the two original connection points.

    Where and what size the brass connector in between the black line?
    Where did you purchase the OCC, brass connector and clamps?

    Isn't the filter what catches the oil? I guess you could use steel wool.

    I’m a believer in the KISS principles, so keep it simple;).

    An oil catch can is another “wide spot in the line” or knock out pot to prevent liquid carryover.

    In this thread there is the gambit between the less than $5 and the @Mendel Leisk gold plated model:whistle:.

    I’m a backwoods engineer at heart, so using what I have and not spending a large sum would be my approach if I were to put one on our Prius. Mounting points have been discussed as well as plumbing runs.

    If it were me, I would mount the catch can below the PCV valve to prevent oil collection on the downstream side of the valve. If oil collects there, it is now resistance to the PCV valve functioning properly or getting gummed up faster. So where @Mendel Leisk mounted it made sense to me;).

    I know @Mendel Leisk asked about Gen 4 and I have not had a chance to check on mine with 12K miles. Perhaps @soldierguy could check his 2016 with 80K miles on it.
