During normal drive, I pretty much follow the traffic.
It seems the speedometer is useless and distractive.

I am wondering is there any way to only turn off speedometer, but leave the shift lever indicator on?
    Thank you.

Not sure on the Gen4, but the Gen2 has a dimming switch on the dash just left of the steering wheel that can dim or turn off the display.

Pretty sure you would have something similar, but look in the user manual if all else fails.

    You are right.
There is a dimming switch, but it applies to all lights on dashboard.
I just want to turn off the speedometer, and leave the shift lever indicator lights on.

I will whether there is a way to only turn off speedometer.

Probably not. Either just dim the entire dashboard or just don't look down at it when driving in traffic. The other screens are just as distracting.

The only concern is I want to see the shift lever indicator, sometimes it could prevent accident.

I will try, if no way to leave the shift lever light on, I may just turn off all the dashboard.
I use smartphone to navigate, but there also Prius dashboard,Prius Entune screen, it is too much light for me :)

It is also a legal requirement for you to drive it on public roads. You should either get used to it or get off the public roads so you are not endangering others.

I'll take OP's 'Location:' field as a clue.

Our location has a similar mindset. :(

CA is the country code for Canada, correct? AFAIK, speedometers are required there too.

I've noticed that too, but not to the same degree as certain select license plates from my own country.

I take it as a U.S. postal code.

The U.S. state and Canadian province postal codes have no overlap. This appears to be intentional, so that when the U.S. eventually annexes Canada, they won't have to change address or phone numbers. Though under the current political climate, it seems more likely that Canada could pick up some seceding U.S. states.

This may be a false memory, but I seem to recall one time when we had a "check hybrid system" warning, it replaced the speedometer, so basically the OP's desired condition. I drove to the dealership thus, no speedo, and to quote Little Richards: "I felt like Aunt Jemima without her pancakes".

You can’t disable the speedometer without altering the Combination Meter Assembly, either to disconnect the main display (left-hand LCD panel) or to modify its firmware. I don’t recommend this.

To reduce distractions, however, you can disable most of the other displays, as I do:
    • On the multi-information display, in the Meter Customize settings, set Simple/Split Screen to Simple and Screen OFF to Yes. You can also disable many of the pop-up displays from this menu; see the Owner’s Manual for details.
    • On the Navigation Receiver Assembly, press the HOME button, then press the ⚙ (gear) icon in the upper-right corner, and then press Screen Off at the bottom center.
    • On the steering wheel, press the TRIP button repeatedly, until the odometer and mileage display at the bottom of the main display disappears.
This will leave the main display showing the speedometer, outside temperature, and fuel gauge. The multi-information display will show warnings and messages, when needed, but it should be blank most of the time.

    I'm intrigued by the question.

I don't ever recall looking to see which gear I'm in in my PRIUS - I tend to be able to sense which direction I'm travelling. It'd maybe different if it was a sequential 8 speed Auto, but the PRIUS is essentially one "gear" - the HSD sorts it out automatically.

But with speedometers, here in Australia, the Design Rule states "...The display of the speedometer must be located within the direct field of view of the driver and must be clearly legible both day and night ..." - ie, legally, it HAS to be there.

I think OP is from California, USPS state abbreviation CA. In internet-speak, Canada's TLD is .ca, Cali would be .ca.us, which is not a TLD.

I don't know what the Gen 4 is like, but I believe on the Gen 2 and 3 you could block the speedo with a little sticker on the mirror toward the front of the dash. Not that I would recommend or ever want to do that.

Don't quote me at the inquest - but I have a radio which I have on Classical FM all night - and the glare is annoying:
    upload_2017-11-6_10-36-40.png
solved by flipping a notebook cover over it when I head to bed every night - I did originally have a piece of card taped as a hinge, but the tape cracked eventually:
