So glad your problem is resolved. My problem is I couldn't hear any real difference between the two recordings, so let's put that down to my inferior ear trumpets!

Just wondering what dealer did you go to? I don't want to go to a dealer that have no idea of the issue and start swapping parts here and there and find out some of the parts were not the cause of the issue.

I went to Palm toyota in Punta Gorda, FL. I would take in the invoice and make a recording just like I did off your cell phone (the quieter the street and road surface the better). If you can do it next to a long concrete building or bridge, that would be even better so it echos or ricochets the sound. Mine started at around 6K and the first two times I took it in the dealership, they said its normal. Took it to dealership #2 where I bought it and their prius guy said its normal. Got the original recording that I posted some time ago recorded at 4AM and showed them it and they took a new prius out for a spin and no noise in the new one.

Just wanted to report, my car was fixed a while back and the issue was resolved. Now the problem has returned :( Car is out of warranty too. If it's not a safety issue, I may just leave it the way it is.

Your profile suggests you have a 2016 model, so your warranty should still be valid. Even if it it's not, they obviously didn't 'fix' it the first time, or else it was an unsatisfactory repair. Presumably the dealer has detected your claim and if so, you should escalate the fault to Toyota USA. @Prius Team is their official monitoring member, but his handle didn't register for me then. Hope that's not an omen!

Yes normally it would still be valid, but unfortunately I've put almost 55k miles on my 2016 already :p The problem was fixed after the repair and was fine for several months. Just recently I noticed that the issue returned.

I'm unsure how that invalidates your warranty, but if the repair was not carried out to a satisfactory standard because the fault came back again, then you would have an argument with the workshop. Ideally, I would want a copy of the worksheet involved in the repair shooting exactly what they had done and come back here to get suitable alternative for you to proceed. If they replaced a part, the new post should have its own warranty. Do not be afraid to write/phone Toyota USA if you are fobbed off! (y)

RCO makes a good point. If the same problem has returned, it wasn't fixed correctly the first time. If the stealership gives you grief about it, Toyota North America needs to know. And you may need to go to another dealer who is more cooperative.

Illegitimi non carbororundum, (don't let the bastards wear you down) as my mother used to say.

Yeah, thanks. Sorry about my illogical autocorrect typos, but I've edited them now. See, I'm not a total idiot
tho I'm bound to get there if I keep up with the regular practice lessons!

That's a valid point, I was just basing it off the manufacturer's warranty. I will definitely bring it back and see what they can do about it. I just hope they don't bring up the fact about my mileage and make me pay out of pocket. We will see. Thanks! Will keep you guys updated for when I go through the process.

Perhaps if they refuse to play the game fair, you could ask them for a deadlock letter.

Since the drive axle is part of the drivetrain, drivetrain warranty last up to 60,000 miles. You still of 5,000 miles left to go until this warranty is up.

I was thinking the same thing snipercoder about the 5 year 60 K warranty (who knows, maybe its under the hybrid powertrain as well. If several of us had this issue, I wonder if the issue will all come back to us and toyota needs to either make a better retrofit part or something. I was thinking...and hoping...we just got a dud part in out prii's

We’ve also had the same issue with our prius. We had a prior gen Prius V we drove for about 100k miles and did not make this noise. I’ve had the car looked at 4 times already for this issue. 2 times they said they couldn’t duplicate (it does it all the time) and 2 times they said the Tech heard it and it is normal. At least one of those times they said it was their “Head Tech” and he said it was a normal sound for the regen braking.

We too did not have the sound for at least the first 5k miles and now we are at 30k. I’m going to take it in again shortly along with the work orders posted in this thread. Thank you for posting those and if anyone else can post theirs, it would be helpful for the entire community.

i have this clicking sound too! just love this forum. i’ve had the rear shock undertoqued rattle thing done already. will probably live with this one as someone else posted it was in their previous priuses too. unless it becomes unbearable or a safety issue.

mines a 2yo jdm gen4 with 50k km. soft clicking sound when gentle braking on a gentle downslope when turning to the drivers side.

Yes I had to deal with that one drivers side front. Brought the car to the dealer twice before they started taking it serious. They put a “chassis scope” on the car so they could record the sound. They really could hear it after that and they made a recording. They even sent me a copy of the recording. After some back and forth with Toyota main office they sent a regional engineer to the dealer to supervise the removal of the drive train, tire, brakes etc. as a single unit to send back to the other engineers so they could evaluate it. I was told that removing everything from the car like that was a real pain but necessary. That was last summer and guess what, even with all new parts the sound has started coming back again.

At first they tried to tell me it was a normal sound but believe me it is not. An individual at the dealer told me that this was becoming a big deal. If you are having the same problem keep pushing because it seems to me like a engineering defect. If you are having this problem do yourself a favor and make the appointment to have it looked at. If they come out with a recall everyone will be covered but if they only issue a technical service bulletin, and trust me I had this happen to me, they only cover the repair for those people who reported a problem.

Well looks like I'm another one. Same clicking noise when coming to a stop... I just thought it was something to do with the brakes. I do hope that the axle replacement would be covered under the powertrain warranty because it sounds like an expensive repair.

And here I thought I was crazy. I noticed this while regen braking at low speed in a parking garage. Then I couldn't stop noticing it for about a week. I finally decided to take it in but the dealership was too busy when I did so I took it home and it stopped making the noise. Glad to hear I'm not alone.
