Rattling/vibrating at low throttle

thank you! My mechanic just suggested me to put some fuel injectors cleaning liquid into the tank + higher octane fuel

What mechanic are you using in the Bay Area?

I saw in another thread you were asking questions about the egr cooler and complexity. I have done the Job 3 times on 3 different Prii and the back bits are hard to get.

My guess is the cooler is clogged and needs a good cleaning. I bought a spare egr valve and cooler from the recyclers out in Rancho Cordova for $100 and have a clean one ready to go back in our 2010 Prius II with 167 k miles around the 200 k like mark.

Engine light did not disappear by itself. I clean the DTC with Scangauge II or you could disconnect the aux 12 battery connector to clean it.

 

Exactly the same kind of rattling at low speed & light throttle conditions. 2010 Prius 3 with 150K miles.

Just did whole sets of cleaning the past weekend - intake manifold including smaller EGR holes/channels, EGR pipe/valve/cooler, PCV valve; changed coolant; added OCC. Build up was heavy but nothing was totally blocked.

However, even after all the thorough cleaning, the rattling sound is still there at low speed & with light throttle.

It was not the similar rattling caused by loose heat shields above the exhaust pipe, for that was caused by rusted heat shield areas around those holding nuts and I fixed three of those places months ago. Having been all good for a few months, but now a similar but different rattling sound is even harder to hunt down & get rid of.

Any suggestion is welcome!
