A couple of days after we got ours (25 Aug) I was told there are "about a dozen" in Indiana with "about half of them" being in the Indianapolis metro area), and just last Saturday I was told there's a 2nd Prime owner here in Lafayette now... a white one... I'll have to keep an eye out for it....

With Purdue being so close, I'd think there would be more Primes around here. Theorizing for a moment... thinking maybe there's a higher proportion of Volts and Bolts and Leafs and such around here as compared to nation-wide stats?

Whenever I notice carts NOT in their "corrals"- and ESPECIALLY if they're just two-or-three-or-so parking spots from the nearest one - I find myself thinking these three words: "Lazy f-----g Americans!"

so.....pick up a used one on Ebay when I already paid $500.00 for the replacement. Yup, that sounds like a good idea.:p

FYI -- it is easy to remove front and rear bumpers and install replacement light housings.
The part for the Prime that OP bought was expensive, but it hopefully will drop in price as time passes.
I replaced a front light housing on a Prius wagon last week. Ebay was ~ $40, the dealership $70-ish.

Every once in awhile a fellow employee asks me why I park my car way out back behind the (food) store.

And those lazy people, yup. Every cart run includes picking up ~20% strays and those "beached" over curbs out far away somewhere, etc. Worse in the winter when there's bad weather or when we're busy and everyone is in (too much of) a hurry.

Yup, and lower odds that anyone's as "crazy" as you, going to park nearby. Plus you get a bit of exercise.

OTOH, what's really creepy: when you're out in the parking lot hinterland, and some joker still parks right beside you...

The backup camera is fine, on summer days. But in the winter with snow and/or road salt, or in the rain, it gets blurred quickly and becomes useless for backing into a tight space.

I can't relate to that back up camera, so wide-angle, hard to judge distance. Good in case of kids on trikes though.

Am I the only one who puts other carts away along with mine when encountering lazy cart user syndrome? Can't stand that personally.

Even with me now parking in that very most protected spot in the back of the store, and at the very end of the row, some ___ still managed to hit my back right bumper and tail light and scratched the heck out of it. Not all of the white paint from the offender rubbed off. And I was afraid of the blasted shopping carts! (still am)

The first thing to do when you get a new car home is go to the tool box, get a small hammer or rubber mallet, and smack the car somewhere. Get it over with. Then you can stop sweating bullets about getting a ding.

    LOL

I have never been quite that pro-active, but I do enjoy an unblemished car until I cause damage and then my typical thought is "good. OK now to add some more!"

I always buy them pre-dinged. My PiP came with several minor dings. ;)

A lot of furniture comes pre-dinged. Interesting thoughts.

I really think they should go back to rudimentary bumpers. They could continue to be aerodynamic, but sturdy, semi-self-healing rubber clad things, with autonomous mounting.

Once one has a minor/major ding, the whole relationship changes, it’s as though divorce proceedings are in the air. Time to buy a new car.
