Multifunction display went black and not responding at all, car drives fine though

    I have a 2009 Prius, driving fine at this time. Yesterday the multifunction display just died. There is nothing visible on the screen and also no reaction or sound when I click the buttons around the display such as climate. Luckily, the A/C still works and the steering wheel controls seem to work as well, so I can still use the car comfortably. Does anyone have an idea about what might be the problem and how to fix it?

    I think your MFD is faulty. There's a TBS, or so, on that.

    There's someone on PC that does repair that dammed thing, and bring it back to life

    could be a loose connection in back i suppose.

    Check the ECU-B fuse under the steering wheel.
    If it's blown the MFD will be black and unresponsive. Mine has an add-a-fuse attached for my dash cam.

    Thank you, I will check it tomorrow when there is light, but looking at the manual, it says that the ECU-B includes power windows and A/C as well and the windows do work, could they still work if the fuse is blown?

    Interesting that it says that because I just went and tested what the manual says by unplugging the ECU-B fuse. Power windows and A/C both worked but the MFD did not. I wonder if there's a larger ECU fuse it might be talking about in the engine compartment. I really don't know though.

    I have removed and checked the fuse. The wire inside is not broken, but I guess the fuse can still be bad. I will take it to the some Auto store and see if they can check it for me. Thank you for the tip!

    Auto Be Yours is the company that fixes MFD's. 812-752-5050.
    Steve is the guy who owns the company and fixed mine in my 2009. I had the exact same problem. Drove with a black screen for 9 months. Steve fixed in less than 90 min. Awesome service, great people. 12 month warranty.

    Reporting back on the Multifunction Display. This does not appear to be a fuse problem. The display came back on for some hours only to fade out again while driving leaving the buttons also unresponsive. Since then it has come back up for a brief moment a few times, fading out into a white line or the Toyota logo which stayed for a whole drive. Does anyone have an idea or experience based on these symptoms about what could be the issue? Thank you so much!

    sounds like a bad solder joint or similar.

    Years ago the touchscreen on my 2006 got unresponsive. I bought a used one from ebay and used a guide that someone created for getting the MFD out. It wasn't super hard but it was painstaking because of the way all the parts of the dashboard interlock. Vents holding down the MFD, panels next to vents holding down the vents.

    This happened to us at about 160,000 miles. Needed a new unit. Toyota replaced it and then retroactively added it to the warranty and reimbursed us. Check with a dealer.

    Please help !
    I have a 2007 Gen 2.
    I was trying to set up a motion sensor to my hood switch after having my $2600 Catalytic converter stolen !
    I disconnected the connector under the left dash and after reconnecting my vehicle started unlocking five times each time that I unlocked it .
    I haven't added the motion sensor or messed with any wiring.
    I decided to disconnect the 12 volt battery for a few minutes to reset things. After that my central display and instrument cluster stopped working completely. I tried various reset procedures that I found online. After that the instrument cluster started working, but my display still doesn't work, so I have no sound, no air conditioning, nothing.
    The vehicle still drives normally.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hey Patka! This exact same thing is now happening with my 2008 Prius. Did you ever find a fix to the issue?

    My 2011 prius has the same issue. Multifunction display just suddenly died (monitor blank). But i noticed that my bluetooth stopped working ~ 2 weeks prior.

    Any update?

    Btw, is it safe to drive this car without that monitor working? Mine has 180K.

    How can it be the same issue. Aren't the MFDs completely different? Maybe ask in one of the Gen 3 forums.
