So, wait, you accelerate and engage cruise control at the same time? My normal use of cruise is
    1. Accelerate to desired speed.
    2. Activate/set cruise control.
    3. Adjust if necessary.
"Hey, Car. I'll show you how I want you to drive. Now you do it."

I'm not ready to do low temperature range testing, yet. In engineering, we like to hold constant as many variables as possible and only range test one. Speed is something the driver can control but temperature is for most of us, outside of our control.

    :p:LOL::ROFLMAO::D:eek::eek::eek:!!!!!

No silly! If you watch my videos you'll see I drive out of my parking space at 5 or 10 MPH for about 0.2 miles then turn left, or right, depending where I'm going down 14 mile road, then accelerate up to 35 MPH, set cruise and BAM! ICE kicks in:mad:

Cruise was the unexpected element in the equation.

Normally, it is used for highway driving. With just a 25-mile EV capacity and a high probability of soon driving faster, engagement of that mode is instructing the system to be ready for more power to be demanded. So, it fires up the engine in preparation for that.

It's another easy-to-explain situation that took us a great deal of time to insolate detail for.

That's what we do as first-year owners.

Anything between 38-44F. My 50F failed and others have reported problems replicating in freezing weather.

If we can do an early cruise control ON that defeats engine ON at any subsequent speed, we'll have a great workaround.

Forgive me for taking what you said literally.

Still trying to come up with the exact formula so others can replicate.

t seems to be my consensus that driving immediately, accelerating to a speed of 35 MPH while engaging the cruise control.

yes, I can see where what I said can be misleading, sorry

I see your point, but only if outside temperature is below 50 F

Correct. It's just part of the chemistry... like how electric-resistance increases significantly when the battery-temp is lower than freezing... hence the addition of a battery-warmer to keep it from falling below 32°F.

Okay, now that we have that straightened out, do you want to try some more tests to see if we can find another workaround? So far, we have
    • Drive at slower speeds for first 5 minutes
    • Wait 5 minutes before driving off
    • Don't use cruise control

the battery warmer, in my case made no difference, ICE still kicked in when Cruise was activated.

That may be misleading, I would drive down the side streets that have a speed limit of 25 MPH. Since Cruise activates at 28 MPH, I never got a chance to see of ICE kicked in or did not kick in due to the 25 MPH speed.

Yes. But I think "5 minutes or so" might be a factor.

    correct:D

Edit: that five minutes is with climate set to 65 ECO and on. I haven't tried it with climate set to off.

Do you want to try my other suggestion of drive off immediately, but park on the side street for 5 minutes before driving 35mph?

Engage cruise. Climate at whatever you would normally do when driving.

Yes. We have several different scenarios overlapping. ICE will kick in regardless, it's like an override.

Remember the 35 mph limit with PiP in the winter? That only applied when the pack was sitting outside in temps below 20°F. Speed came into play in that case.
