I decided about getting a rear dash cam for my 2nd gen Prius , since it's probably the 2nd best option protecting myself in rear-end collisions. I just need help trying to look for the right dash cam in my conditions. If anyone has any experience with using dash cams would be a plus.

I already have a front dash cam, so I'm not sure if it's better buying a rear one only or getting a whole new unit. I also would like an adhesive instead of suction-cup mount since it's more discrete. It also needs to be a capacitor model, because of high heats. That's about all i can think of for now. I would appreciate your recommendations.

I personally like the Mini 0806, but it doesn't do very well in the heat. I used a G1W for years, but it's a suction cup mount. Maybe try one of the Aukey models that you can get on Amazon?

The big challenge is getting a power cable routed back there and have it look OK.

Yes the G1W is what i'm also using, it's no good if it doesn't do well in the heat. If you do happen to have one routed in the back could you show how you did the wiring?

There is the G1W-C, but the one I had was problematic and I kind of wrote off the $30 I paid for it. I got one of these Aukey models on sale for like $50 and it's been a step up from the G1W - the Sony IMX323 sensor is noticeably better at night. Haven't had it in the heat yet, so only time will tell how it holds up.

Regarding the rear dashcam: that's the thing - mine looks terrible. I've just got a thin USB cable running across the headliner held up with tape (it looks suuuuper ghetto in our Tesla). It's easier to find long, thin micro-usb cables (and use an adapter at the camera end) than mini-usb cables. I would have moved to something like a Blackvue DR650 or 750 (both dual-channel), but they run off 12v and I can't power them off a single 4-way USB phone charger.
