Has anyone done the trailer wiring on a Gen 4 Prius? I was able to install everything but cant figure out what the red wire attaches to under the car. Im wondering if it could be behind the rear driver light and not underneath.

I have spent 10 hours trying to find that plug they talk about in the directions. I have remove the back of the car and the tail lights and no plug. I am starting to think that the 2017 Prius discontinued that plug. Now what to do?

OK I found the plug. it is on the back of the lower part of the tail light on the drivers side. It is the clear plastic lens of your tail light. Unplug the light blub that is your brake light and that is the plug. Why didn't they just say that in the directions. I looked all over for a wire plug where they said and even their picture is not the right picture. Good Luck with yours. Bob

I had to have someone else do it for me. Curse of being a big guy with big hands. Funny thing is i called the company that made it and no one there knew how to do it either. Crazy times but its done. All I have left to do is run the power from back to front.

Did you bring the wire to the battery inside the car or under? If inside how did you get it into the engine compartment?

I brought my wire to the battery under the car, but inside of the plastic panels to protect the wiring from damage.

I ended up doing mine along the inside of the car under the plastic and through the grommet.

I know this is an old thread. But did anyone of you ever get it working? Mine doens't seem to work with the brake lights. verified trailer brake lights work with my truck. Is because the 12v isn't outputting to the LED brakes? I noticed the Curt wiring plugs in on the large pin behind the bumper.

I just tried installing the Tekonsha 118701 kit today on my 2019 Prius LE.... Fml

I cannot find the place to connect the red plug!!

I looked underneath the car and in the center towards the bumper, there is a plug that is for the rear brake lights, this is the plug that they use in the installation video for the CURT brand wiring kit, but the adapter that the Tekonsha kit comes with for the red wire is wayyy too small to fit this plug.

I read the previous comment here that the red wire plug from the Tekonsha kit should plug into the driver side brake light, but we literally spent hours trying to figure out how to get the lower brake light assembly out of the car, and can only conclude that it is impossible. The upper reverse light part is separate and easily removable, but the lower brake light piece does not come out no matter how many plastic clips I break trying to pry it out...

Then I also read elsewhere that even if I was able to get everything plugged in correctly that the brake lights will most likely still not work correctly because the pin out on the wiring connectors is wrong for 2019+ and it might interfere with the rear sensors

If anyone has SUCCESSFULLY installed the Tekonsha 118701 wiring kit PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD help me

Just wired up the tekonsha 118701 trailer wiring kit to a 2018 Prius 3. I found the wire for the brake light to be the hardest to connect. the best way is to remove the upper driver side rear light housing and then reach down inside to access the wire on the b ack of the brake bulb.
