too bad it doesn't have the ability to disable gps entry. (like the old gen 2 early model up/down/up/down/up touch hack)

I mean really... it lets me go in and book movie seats and get table reservations while driving, but not enter gps destination.

(mind you i'm not advocating for doing this... I never do this myself, but if I have my wife with me it would be nice to allow her to enter).

 

Just to add clarification in case the term "tail" is confusing, you can use any two positions on the stalk. Off to Auto or off to DRL or the other selections as long as you do it 4 times.

Is it possible to turn on the video feed option via service mode? Currently we do not have the video feed option enabled for phone mirroring to work.

 

using this method, is it possible to put the "grille shutter system" in maintenace mode? or is the only way with Techstream?

No. The Navigation Receiver Assembly’s diagnostic mode is only for the navigation and rear view monitor systems; as I wrote before, it is not a general diagnostic or indicating system for the vehicle.

The only way to enter Maintenance Mode mentioned in the Repair Manual (more info) is to use the Body Electrical > Grill Shutter > Utility > Grill Shutter Control Mode Switching function of a Toyota Techstream diagnostic system. Once the Grille Shutter System is in Maintenance Mode, driving will restore it to Normal Mode; Toyota writes, “The grille shutter control mode will be changed and initialization will be performed automatically when the vehicle speed exceeds 5 km/h (3 mph).”

 

Found some new information on this service menu. Has anyone tried downloading the Failure Diagnosis information to a flash drive as described here? https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10176504-9999.pdf Might help with diagnosing the reboot issues that people have reported.

 

Can you get the 12 volt battery status from either of these menus?

 

Under Service Menu > Function Check/Setting > Vehicle Signal, there is supposedly a “Battery” voltage readout, but I believe this actually shows the DC input voltage at the Navigation Receiver Assembly—as you’d expect, since the Service Menu is for diagnosing the multimedia system, not the rest of the car.

When the car is in READY, the 12-volt bus is usually energized by the DC-DC converter, not the auxiliary (12-volt) battery. Even in ACC or IG-ON modes, with the DC-DC converter off, the reading is likely to be lower than the voltage at the terminals of the battery under the hood, due to the voltage drop in the wiring.

If you want to know the battery voltage, I’d suggest measuring it directly. I keep a Hioki pencil-style digital multimeter (in the special 3246-70 grade with the see-through case, of course) in the car for this purpose, but a Toyota Electrical Tester Set or a $12 multimeter would likely serve just as well.

To check on the auxiliary battery management system, you’ll need a Toyota Techstream diagnostic system or equivalent. Related items on the Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List page include:

I use a Bluetooth battery monitor that is connected to the 12v battery post. It monitors 12v battery status 24/7/365, and notifies you via phone app when they need a charge. No need to turn on the car, not even popping the hood open. It uses a very little negligible amount of battery power. During the COVID-19, it has served me very well to make sure the 12v stays healthy.
