and the a/c does not come on!!! I pointed out the new dash light and they said they would need to do diagnostics, that the code is P0AA6 and he is not hybrid certified. I left and when I turned the A/C on it did not come on, does not even turn over???? I looked at the fusebox when I got home and the cover had been taken off and the two hinges not inserted so only part of the fuse cover was hinged. This makes me think that they did something electrical. The battery gauge on the dash went from a single cell to full on the drive home and the car is running correctly.

This is a 2012 Prius V with 117,000. I previously paid $900 for repair of shaking in cold weather issue and now $1200 for the gasket. This is not the Toyota of old.

Oh my! That doesn't seem good. Do you have a way to get the code the car is throwing??

Btw I had a 2012 prius v too. I traded it in at 120,000 miles because so many other people starting having major problems with these newer Prii engines. It also started using oil around 110,xxx miles :(

why did you have the timing cover gasket replaced, was oil pooling on the ground when parked?

    is this a toyota dealer?

Sounds like it might be a good idea to find a different place to take your car for repairs. It appears that they didn’t even road test the car before turning it over to you. Pretty inept, if you ask me.
BTW, was this done at a dealer?!?!?

That pretty much stinks, but a bit of troubleshooting can probably isolate the cause or clear it.
    here's a little info about the P0AA6

    High Voltage Isolation Fault (P0AA6)

If you're able to get a FULL code/subcode/freeze frame read and documented, it may be worth disconnecting the 12v battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting. It may clear and never come back, or it may pop right back up. If it comes right back, at least you know it's probably real. There's also a reading you can check on techstream that will indicate "just how badly shorted" it is. I'll have to dig in my notes to find the exact reading, but it's mentioned in the link above. Also take a look at the link below, same type of situation. The isolation resistance info is in the freeze frame data page for the P0AA6 fault. Freeze frame data is accessed via techstream by clicking on the "snowflake" icon next to the fault code. Some other code readers can access freezeframe data, but not all.

Check Hybrid System P0AA6 | PriusChat

If you're not able to find any help, I may be able to meet you halfway or something to techstream it.

The dealership said I had a leak at the last oil change. 7000 miles later I am driving the car and the oil light flashes and goes away...it happened at night and was the only reason I saw the flash. I parked it when I got home and the next morning I checked the oil. NO oil on the dip stick! Also no dash lights. I added one quart of Mobile 1 10W30 and drove to the dealership for an oil change. They came to the waiting room and said the time chain cover gasket was leaking really bad and that the engine only had two quarts in it.!!! I left the car for them to change the gasket. They charged me for my oil change and the gasket. I asked why am I charged for the oil change as you must remove the oil for the gasket change. He said oil stays in the pan. When I went to leave I saw the new light and asked what they had done. They took it back and then came up front to say I would need to pay for diagnostics as the code P0AA06 has nothing to do with what they did today. I drove home and turned the a/c on and there was no cold air and the a/c did not come on as if a fuse or wiring harness was not connected. I called them back and said I could buy one coincidence but not two. He agreed it sounded odd and asked for me to bring it back Tuesday AM. Where is the 12V battery to remove the clamps and restore clamps after 30 seconds?

It is code P0AA06, there was no code or any lights prior to their work. Not even a low oil light and less than two quarts in the engine according to the dealership.

There was never any pooling or oil leaks noted on the garage floor. The car has a very big pan brush protector , I am not sure what it is called. This car was in the garage for a week and no leaks present under it.

If no leaks, then why was the timing cover gasket replaced?

It had been noted earlier it had a leaking gasket. No , leaks noted on the garage and I questioned it. He said the bottom pan may have collected any drips. I can tell you that even with two quarts missing I never saw a leak, pool of oil, or drips. My oil was missing and the tech said the gasket was leaking big time which would explain the missing oil. I wonder if they cleaned the engine after fixing the gasket and that caused a short in the a/c line due to old seals.

It had been previously noted at an oil change as having a leak. When my oil was missing, down to 2 quarts, i took it in for an oil change and they came out and said my oil was in the bottom pan having leaked out under pressure through the time cover gasket.

It would be an unusual design to expect a timing cover gasket to hold pressurized oil.

It was noted at the prior oil change that the timeing gasket cover was leaking. The dip stick was showing no oil but I still did not have any in the garage but they said it probably blew out under pressure when driving and excess collected in the protection pan??? I should say no leaks noticed on the garage floor but dealership noted a leaky gasket and now I have missing oil, a lot.

My opinion and only my opinion: You probably got shanked. The dealer most likely saw some seepage or an oily spot and "over described" the issue, which was probably no issue at all. I'd imagine that going 7000 miles without at least checking the oil level would be a leading cause of having a low level. Most likely your engine just has a minor consumption habit. NBD, as 99% of all cars on the road consume some amount of oil. Toyota's spec for consumption is about 1 quart every 800 miles(?). That means your engine could consume up to 9 quarts of oil in 7200 miles and still be considered satisfactory. Just because a car may have a change interval of 10k miles DOES NOT mean it won't need checking and topping off during that period. I personnally check oil level in all my family cars at least once a week. You got suckered into a big $$ gasket replacement for what was probably just an oil stain from weepage. You can easily verify this just by checking your oil level every 1000 miles and document. If oil continues to disappear, then the "leak" wasn't an issue.

If the timing cover gasket "blew out under pressure" you have much bigger issues than an oil leak, but there's no mention of them investigating that................means to me they're making sh*t up to justify a $1200 gasket job.

Battery replacement video for your car.......just to provide you with a location and how to access.

    Battery Replacement: 2012-2017 Toyota Prius V - 2012 Toyota Prius V 1.8L 4 Cyl.

Thank you! That is a great DIY video. I can do that. I will start monitoring the oil levels to see about consumption. It was scary that no lights were on with such little oil left in the engine.

Well, it looks like the shank is still happening as now I must deal with the light and no A/C

The AC is not working because you have the P0AA6 fault. The Prius AC compressor runs off the HV system. HV fault=no AC. See post 5 about disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnect. See what happens. If the fault stays clear, the AC will probably work just fine.

quite a few have had the leaking timing chain cover gasket, but it's usually very slight, and not worth fixing.
hard to pin the blame without having seen it.
monitoring your oil is always a good idea, especially now. you may also need an egr/intake manifold cleaning, and possibly a catch can, which can reduce the oil burning.
unfortunately, toyota's low oil light does not come on until it is too late.
listen to tmr above, he knows what he is talking about.
    all the best!(y)
