Ugh. On the bright side, damage may be limitted to the door. Or is there damage to the sill?

Actually, damage was to both doors and the T-shaped sill piece. Roughly $6k parts, $7k labor (including repainting Blizzard Pearl on sill and both doors.) Luckily (?), it was the other driver's fault, we didn't pay a dime. All better now, and my wife is happy, so I am happy as well.

no, he called it in... we pulled into a community center parking lot, there were 2 more police explorers there... ended up being about 6 of them...

it is in progress... the body shop (which came highly recommended from my most trusted local mechanic) has already labelled some damage on the right side as 'prior'... i had not seen any damage on this car at all prior to the crash... wondering of some of the flying glass could have caused that... the guy from the body shop said i would need to come up with a reasonable explanation on how damage occured on the right side when the car was hit in back... to fix the scratches would be another $1500...

Scratches that are very subtle are often caused by carwashes and you don't really notice them if you're not looking for them like I do...

If the impact was of reasonable force and the panels bent/deflected that cracks the paint which can kind of look like scratches to the untrained eye even when they bend back. The paint stretches and bends which makes the paint larger. Now when the metal goes back to the way it wants to go due to memory there is more paint surface area than metal surface area and bumps/scratches.

If you ever had a carwash, it is very possible those scratches are from that.

yikes! that is what concerns me about the new prius designs, very expensive repairs will drive up insurance premiums.

One would think that with all of the new safety features on cars, such as Toyota Safety Sense, insurance premiums would decrease, but just the opposite is happening because all of these parts are expensive to replace.

This isn't a Prius thing, this is a modern car thing.

On one of my vehicles someone cut too sharply parking and made a nice dent in the front fender. No damage to anything else just a nice dent about a foot long and less than an inch deep. $14K for the fender part alone. $2.5k in crating and shipping. Installation put the cost up to $20k.

Phone up the parts department of your dealership; they very likely have all the touch-up paint colours.

I believe you would also need clear coat touch up.

The dealership here sells a pen style touch-up paint, with colour coat at one end, clear coat at the other. The mechanics of it are like a thick felt pen: you take the cap off, and depress the fibrous nib a few times to start the paint wicking through.

I stick to using the color coat only though; found the clear coat invariably lifted the paint coat, even after patient curing for a few days. When you're dealing with minor rim rash or a door corner, it's not that critical anyways.
