Where is the backup camera connector?

Can someone help guide me so I can find the connector for the backup camera? I’m tying to add the OEM backup camera to a 2008 Prius (package 1). I read previous posts saying the 07+ had the connector hidden somewhere in the hatch.

Any help or pictures would be appreciated.

If your car does not have navigation and JBL stereo with separate amplifier, I doubt it has the wiring loom that includes the connection for the rear camera. If it is there it will be hanging inside the tailgate by where the blank is for the camera.

Let me know if I am wrong. It has been known.

I'm not sure JBL/NAV has anything to do with anything. My 2008 Package 2 has the backup cam, and I somehow doubt they would install a different wiring loom in lower-spec cars.

Equally, I can't see why they would run all that extra copper for no reason, it all adds up.

Does your package 2 have a 4 button MFD or a 7 button one?

This was one of the threads that got me interested in adding the camera.

The instructions seem clear enough, but I can’t seem to find the hidden connector. Someone else in the link above said they found it on a package 1 prius

They definitely do have variant wiring harnesses, sometimes several variants; you can spot the little numbered asterisks all through the wiring diagram manual.

It does seem counterintuitive how the economics of that could work out, but when you make enough copies of each model, the pennies must add up to an amount they care about.

I’ll have to take a closer look when I have time.

In the mean time, does anyone have any pictures of the hidden wire connector?

Okay. I think we found the wires that a few people mentioned in the previous thread. However, it’s not a connector where you directly plug the camera into. Note: it is not directly plug and play. I was under the impression it was.

The wires come out of the right hand Side bellow (rubber grommet at the top where the hatch meets the roof) and terminates at the female end of the connector. The female side connector looks like it runs through the headliner.

The male connector feeds into the trunk wiring harness. I am missing pins on the male wiring harness where it mates with the female harness. This is right where the red, white, black and gray wires are.

I will update about a week from now. I’m going to try something and see if I can get the OEM backup camera to work with the non navigation MFD screen.

For anyone looking for this information, @DangNabbit has pictures here: Backup camera Gen 2
And his install saga continues here: Wires connection of back-up camera to MFD !!!
I have a 2004, so I have no wires, he has a 2008 base (no nav, no camera) and what was found:
    1. Rear hatch has two different looms, one with camera (82185-47110), one without. (This is the complete hatch loom, not just the camera wire.)
    2. Roof seems to have only one loom in 2006-2009, it includes the camera wires. (Goes from the top of the hatch to under the driver's seat.)
    3. The dash loom does not include the camera wires, so a new cable must be run from under the driver's seat (end of the roof loom at connector IQ1) to the back of the high-res MFD at connector M14.
