Another success! Thanks for this great write up. Worked the first time through with both Procedures A and B. For step 9c I held the lock button for 5-10 seconds and didn't have any lock-unlock cycle. But, everything worked so all is good!

Bought my gen 2 SKS FOB online @ PartBull .... Price ~$124 for a new FOB.

Sorry if this is already answered, 25 pages nearly 500 posts is hard to sift through.

Can Procedure A and C be preformed on a used key fob? This would be for emergencies so Id like to save money on the used key and just leave out the SKS functionality if possible.

Yes on A. Works for both black and silver logo keyfobs on SKS and non-SKS cars.

C is for non-SKS (black logo) keyfobs. It will not get you door lock/unlock on a SKS car.

Hmm, so is there no way to get button lock/unlock on a used SKS car/fob? I know im SOL on the smart key functions.

    Not unless you use Techstream.
You will also need to purchase a seed code.

Well, I guess starting the car and opening the door with with the physical key is better than nothing.

Don't think this is available for Gen2...

So I've tried both Procedure A & B and have NOT been able to get it to work at all. I have an '08 with 190k miles with SKS functionality and an original silver logo on the back. I replaced the battery in the FOB. However, I do have an aftermarket shell over my key FOB that replaced the worn out plastic, but that shouldn't affect the chicken dance, should it? I'm considering swapping out the physical plastic shells between the two to experiement.

I've tried both procedures with the FOB with a new battery, with the SKS button pushed in and out. The hangup steps are:

Procedure A: 3. Remove old fob from slot. Car is in fob programming mode at this point. Red anti-theft light remains on. When I perform this step, the Red anti-theft light does not remain on, it simply continues to blink.

Procedure B: 7. Without pressing the brake, press power button, wait a second, press it again, wait a second, press it a third time to turn car back off. When I press the power button, nothing happens, both with the SKS button turned on and turned off.

I'm very good at following instructions, and although a little convoluted, I can follow these to the "T". However, it seems that I'm either doing something wrong procedurally or there is another factor at play.

On procedure A, when you remove the old fob, you then insert new fob. Once programming is completed, the light stops flashing. Takes about a minute

The problem with Procedure A is that the red anti theft light continues blinking after the procedural steps prior to that point; I can't get it to stay steady in order to be able to put in the new FOB.

There is a limit of 5 fobs that can be stored into the car's computer. But I'm not sure if the Procedure A ones have a limit. I think only the SKS procedure B parts are limited.

I've done this many times and it's worked as stated in the instructions. Maybe you can try to reset your car and then continue?

To reset, disconnect your 12v negative terminal for 1 minute and reconnect. After you reconnect you will have to reset your radio stations, clock, and auto window for the driver.

I'll give resetting the car a shot; it is unlikely that the 5 FOB limit has been reached as I purchased the vehicle when it had 27k miles and have had it up until the current 190k.

When I tried this years ago I had a problem with a sticky door switch. When I opened and closed the door a bunch of times the switch remained closed. You should here the door chime when opening and closing.

When you changed the key shell, did you move over the RFID chip as well as the PCB?

The RFID chip sits at the front of the back half of the shell.

I have a non-SKS 2004. When I looked at the keys using TechStream, there were 5 slots. I reset all and reprogrammed my original fob and added two more.

No, I did not. I think I still have the original shell; if I can't find it, what are my options at this point?

Ok, that is the reason, you are having problems. The RFID is required start the car in slot, and is required for the chicken dance.
Not good, you will be in for a very expensive new key at the dealer. It would be better all around to find the old key shell.

Or, put up with no "key-in-the-slot" functionality.

Search for a locksmith who can handle an "all keys lost" situation on a Toyota. Pop-A-Lock is a chain that has the resources, although it still comes down to the individual locksmith.

I just did the chicken dance successfully tonight! It took some time but I’m glad it worked. Thank you so much for the detailed instructions!
