Since mine is red w/beige interior, the white is definitely more visually jarring, but even so, I'm no longer interested in an applique, as noted here (turns out the white console has real benefits): White console----Japanese perspective? | Page 3 | PriusChat

It may just be another example of form following function, as odd as the form might have wound up.

I finally just stopped complaining, bit the bullet, and had the dealer install the black cover-up. I had a $100 accessories discount from my Costco purchase agreement, and with installation the kit cost me $150. No regrets. It looks MUCH better.

I was wondering why I like the "white porcelain" interior in my 2016 Prius. Then I saw my teapot at work. I get it now...

OK..OK... A lot of us agree the white has to go. I'll wrap it, but does anyone know HOW to remove the console, and steering wheel parts?

I'm thinking, like a lot of trim removal, that just diving in, slowly and carefully, is at least as effective as having someone try to explain it. Sometimes there are trick hidden tangs, that come loose when pushed in some particular direction, and not that intuitive. But all in all, I'd say just go for it. Carefully, using taped, wide bladed tools. Bear in mind it all got popped together, it can't be that hard.

I have a set of these for working on computers which might do the trick. I actually used them tonight to fix a dryer downstairs where someone had jammed it up by using a canadian quarter. Was able to pop it loose and the 75 cents is now mine.

'm looking forward to do exactly the opposite. My car has the moonstone interior with the white console, but the lower part of the steering wheel is black... I'd rather have it white like the rest of the car, but there seems to easy way to change just that part.
I looked it up in OEM Toyota parts and it seems it comes complete with the steering wheel buttons.
Does anyone knows if there is a way to change just that part?

Still looking for a reasonable solution to deal with the white steering wheel. That's the only part that isn't black in my car.

Mat-black plasti-dip worked well for me, for a knackered shifter bezel in our son's Civic. It was silver paint over black plastic, and was looking pathetic. Before, after, and installed:

Perhaps for others but not for me. First the white accents are enough for me to look elsewhere, but there are other things I don't like such as the lower, laid back, drivers position and the 2" lower car. I sold a car in the past because it was too low. Getting in and out of the car is easier in a taller vehicle.

I don't care about the new suspension and driving characteristics. I drive for high mileage so I never push the car. Cornering doesn't matter in my case. The Gen II was just fine and I don't notice any difference in the Gen III as far as driving characteristics go. The Gen IV suspension changes would be a waste on me.

I don't like the direction Toyota has taken with the Prius. I've never liked the center gauges, I want my gauges directly in front of my like traditional cars. The radical console of the Prime is a huge turn-off for me. The Darth Vader dash of the Gen IV is ugly. After 11 years of Prius ownership I'm ready to move on. Until recently there were no alternatives.

The outside looks of a car are not very important to me, the interior is more important. I don't like what Toyota has done to the Gen IV. If I were pushed for an opinion of the looks of the external view of the Gen IV I'd have to say it isn't my taste.

I've become very interested in the new Hyundai Ioniq SEL. It is less expensive, more traditional, no white accents, gets better MPG, is a very nice looking car, has Android Auto, traditional gauge location, has features not available in a Prius in that price range (heated/cooled seats, adaptive cruise, 2 driver position memory, driver only environment switch), 10 year warranty on the drive train, and it has a lifetime warranty on the traction battery failure. It has more cargo room than the Prius too, and room for a spare (not included) under the cargo floor.

To correct some minor points for 2017 US Prius.
All models have radar cruise and the cruise response adapts to the drive mode selected. All Gen 4 have S-Flow for driver-only and front-only climate control.

@jdonalds I agree with most everything you say, regarding the 4th Gen looks, design, ergonomics.

I kind of tune out on your last paragraph: just don't know or care much about the advanced infotainment items. I just wish Toyota would step back and look at where they're going with this car. For many reasons, I doubt this is possible.

I really like the white center console/cupholders. It's actually blizzard pearl color and sparkles if the sun hits it just right. Matches the blizzard pearl exterior car color. I added a few color accents. image.jpg

I'm sure I'm not alone in wondering if your alter ego was ever on this forum before. I know ProdigyPlace has mooted the idea on another thread....????(n)

I only remember 2 users referring to their Prius as a space shuttle...
