Pictures and video will be documented. It will be a game changer for all with higher mileage Gen 3.

Bonus points if you keep the GEN 4 improved EGR system.

If I get one with the converter and EGR pipe I will try and use it.

Do you have another car you can drive while you are doing a switchover? It won't be a weekend project.

If all goes well I can see Gen 3 Prius owners buying a cheap low mileage Gen4 engine and have it sit around until needed. It doesn't sound like you could loose any money on it as the Gen4 gets older the price should go up.

At first read I thought you meant the whole car, but it's still engine swaps?

In OP's shoes, I think I'd roll the dice on anything between 2010 and 2015, but not 2016+: bound to be problems.

I did an engine swap many years ago in a Triumph GT6, the old engine lost its thrust washers into the oil pan and it would have taken reworking the engine block and crankshaft so I went to the junkyard. I found another engine in a newer Triumph and not a GT6 and back then there wasn't the information around like the internet and no one could tell me if it would fit. I changed the engine and everything bolted up fine and it ran. I had the bonnet off and installed it but the bonnet would not close because they hit the carburetors. I ended up punching a couple of holes in the bonnet and made a fiberglass bubble in the hood and all was well.

I'm only 80 miles away, wouldn't mind to be a goffer or extra hand or set of eyes for a day, or picture taker or video camera holder. 80 miles is not that far in a hybrid.

Now that I am sure enough to up and go for it, I am narrowing down the choices on where to get my engine. Most of the ads show the intake and exhaust manifolds on the engine. Trying to see who sends what with the engine at what price.

1200 gets me intake and exhaust with the EGR. And it’s 3 hours one way to drive. They wanted $100.00 to strap it to a pallet, plus truck freight to me(about 200). I can go pick it up for roughly 125. So I think that is my plan.

Just Googling, a typical 4 cylinder engine is about 300 pounds.

They took EGR cooler and manifold. But the rest is there. Now the fun begins.

Would be nice if they included the exhaust manifold and the cat (or pay a little extra to have them) so you can play with an EGR system upgrade fitment.:p

I got mad. They were taking stuff off AFTER they had my money. I told them to stop stripping it or give me my money back. Coils, flywheel, transaxle damper and intake came home with me. They only got the EGR cooler and manifold with converter. I am tempted to try and use the intake manifold.

Here it is mounted on a stand. I’m going to clean it up a bit before the install.
