EGR system cleaned but check engine light still comes on

    Did you ever get this sorted?

    For me, I reinstalled the egr, tool it out a couple times because it was moving freely, but when I put it back on, the plunger was sticking a bit. I ended up buying f a uses egr on eBay, installed it and it worked fine, plus all the codes went away.
    My mileage is still down to about 40-43 when it uses to be around 45-47....any ideas to improve mileage?

    I also ordered a used egr valve and soon as I clean it and get it installed, I will update everyone.

    I installed the used egr valve and cooler that I bought off of ebay this morning. I will update in a couple of days after I have driven the car to see if check engine light stays off.

    Any update dbhart613? I am in same boat... cleaned egr valve/cooler/pipe, intake manifold, replaced plugs and pcv... still CEL. Might need a new egr valve.

    What code is turning on the CEL? Have a way to read the codes?

    Everything is tight and secured?

    A lot of connections (both electrical and mechanical) have been disturbed, so worth checking your situation again to make sure everything is right;).

    I made it all last week without the cel coming on for the egr code p0401. I did replace the map sensor with a facet sensor I found online hoping that was the problem but after a couple of weeks the cel has been coming on show the code p0108 for bad map sensor. I ordered a used oem map sensor and it's at the post office right now and I will pick it up in the morning and install. I was waiting to install that before I updated but it seems that my egr valve was bad.

    This morning before I installed the used oem map sensor I did not reset the cel. I have read that the cel light will not go off until the cel is reset with obd II. After installing the used sensor and starting the car the light was off. The code was still showing when the obd II was plug in but the light was off and I cleared the code. Hopefully no more cel. Thanks for all the help.

    Problem solved. Used egr valve and used oem map sensor fixed the problem.
