    Hi folks,

First post to this forum. Please guide if I need to do things differently.

Issue: 2016 Prius c air conditioning not workIng. Miles just out of warranty.

What I have done: Pulled climate control code - 23. Ordered a pressure transduce
Four Seasons 37317 is the part number (unable to post link due to noob status)

    Need help with 2 questions:
    1. Fuse location: I tried to figure out relevant fuse by looking at the fuse box and couldn’t figure it out.
    2. Instructions to replace the transducer. Specifically - Is there a Schrader valve in place so I don’t have to worry about the Freon leaking/spilling?

Thank you so much for your help and suggestions.

Looks like there is no Schrader valve to prevent Freon leak for pressure senor R&R.

    REMOVAL
    1. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
    2. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER PRESSURE SENSOR
    (a) Disconnect the connector.
    (b) Using a deep socket wrench 27 mm, remove the air conditioner pressure sensor.

    INSTALLATION
    1. INSTALL AIR CONDITIONER PRESSURE SENSOR
    (a) Remove the attached vinyl tape from the liquid pipe sub-assembly and the connecting part of the cooler condenser.
    (b) Apply sufficient compressor oil to a new air conditioner pressure sensor and the connecting surface.

    Compressor oil:
    ND-OIL 11 or equivalent.
    (c) Using a deep socket wrench 27 mm, install the air conditioner pressure sensor.
    11 N·m {110 kgf·cm, 8ft·lbf}

    (d) Connect the connector.
    2. CHARGE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WITH REFRIGERANT
    3. WARM UP COMPRESSOR
    4. INSPECT FOR REFRIGERANT LEAK

Thank you denali123 for your prompt and detailed instructions.

I have read a few stories of people damaging their cooling system using the wrong refrigerant or oil.
Does anyone have experience using products other that Toyota successfully?

As you may have guessed, I don’t have the equipment to recover the refrigerant and by the time I factor in the cost of the genuine refrigerant and oil, wonder if it would be worth trying to do it myself. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi ajaain,
    1) Have you rule out the possibility other than pressure sensor it self?

DTC B1423/23 Pressure Sensor Circuit Detection Condition
    • Open or short in air conditioning pressure sensor circuit
    • Refrigerant pressure on the high pressure side is extremely low (0.19 MPa (2.0 kgf/cm 2 , 28 psi) or less) or extremely high (3.14 MPa (32.0 kgf/cm 2 , 455 psi) or more).
    Trouble Area
    • Air conditioning pressure sensor
    • Harness or connector between air conditioning pressure sensor and air conditioning amplifier assembly
    • Air conditioning amplifier assembly
    • Cooler expansion valve (blocked, stuck)
    • Cooler dryer (moisture in the refrigerant cycle cannot be absorbed)
    • Condenser assembly (blocked, deterioration of cooling capacity due to dirt)
    • Cooling fan system (condenser assembly cannot be cooled down)
    • A/C system (leaks, blocked)
" ..wonder if it would be worth trying to do it myself? "
It depends on your skill, experience and your equipment. If you never work on any air condition system before, I would recommend that local Toyota dealer to work for you. Prius-c need to have a separate equipment to prevent any other than "ND-OIL 11" oil contamination. However, if you still like to try, I can post refrigerant replacement procedures for you.
