Prius wont start or go into gear, gear lights flashing

I have this same problem. Did anyone ever figure it out?

I am charging the 12v now. I am hoping to not have to drag out the code reader.

About 151k. Was running fine then all of a sudden while waiting at light problem triangle came on and it went into neutral and all gear s started flashing and had gauge flashing

 

Still trying to charge it, hooked it up to a faster charger now. I'm pretty sure the battery was within range to start it last night though. I will try again before I have to leave, then I suppose I have to drag out the scanning stuff and attempt to get it to connect again. I also should note, when I tried to start it last night, there was a loud buzzing sound maybe like a relay when I was pressing the start button a number of times.

 

So, you have some warning lights on your dash?

Personally, I don’t think the OP problems had anything to do with his 12 V battery. It a shame he never came back to resolve the thread with the solution. But presumably the dealer fixed it.

What “scanning stuff ” do you have at your disposal?

 

I believe op had same problem I do. It was probably the inverter pump blew the fuse.

 

Did the dealer diagnose and fix the problem?

Dec 2017: While driving 70mph on the highway, I ran over a bump and various lights came on the dashboard. I was scared so I pulled over on the highway. After turning the car off and on, I was unable to switch gears. Pretty sure engine light and red triangle was on. Took it to a garage, they hired an electrician to check it out. They charged the battery and told me the cable was not secure.
August 2018: at 7am, Car would not change gear. Red triangle and Engine light and a couple other lights came on. Took a taxi to school and came back in 2 hours, then everything seemed fine. I drove it to dealership and they told me 18 codes were diagnosed. They charged the battery and drove it for over 3 hrs. and there was no problem. They said it was probably the catalytic converter, so I replaced it.
October 2018: Car would not change gear. Red triangle and Engine light and a couple other lights came on. This time, I was able to get the car going after 20 minutes. Unfortunately, as I was driving 50mph for one minute on the highway, car seemed to have gone into neutral. I could not accelerate at all so I pulled over Same problem, I cannot change gear. Brought it to dealership again and they are still unsure what to do. They said the problem has to occur while their machine is plugged into it. They will charge the battery and try driving it around. I told them my battery is probably leaking.
Is this dealership incompetent or is it really that hard to diagnose the problem?
What do you think the problem is?
What should I do?

You likely do not have the same problem. The car would not start at all if the inverter pump was bad which was my case and likely the case with this op.

Only 80k miles. Dealer said battery is not the problem. Previously, in 2017, this same thing happened and another auto shop told me battery was tested 3 times and was good.

My gear lights were flashing too. Toward the end, my gear lights were slightly dimmer (this sounds like a battery issue to me).
I am wondering if the battery is leaking/discharging somewhere. I asked dealership to make sure the cables are all secure and they double checked it.

Hi there i bought a 2008 prius wich when driving on the motor way at first the engine managment light, also the vsc and (!) Came on
. . We drove to our destination amd just the red triangle and engine mangement light is only on...

Prior to that in the morning after the car was ready it wouldnt switch out of 'p' to D

I was having the same issue,jumped my car and it fixed the issue immediately after which I drove in a battery charging manner.

 

Having the same issue. I wish OP would have shared what he found out.
Anyone else have solutions. Went through a bunch of fuses, might do a double check before I take it for diagnostics.
