Are you backtracking? Trying to cover your tracks? Think of all the bored cops with cyber tools in your state... And if someone did send your picture in, who says it would be me?

Tsk tsk. you bad boy! the proper thing to do would have been to stop, get out and stretch luxuriantly. Then go in, get a soda and drive off. You might, just accidently, mention "oh, still 3/4 tank" as you get in your Prius.

Mine shows a permanent low tire as well. Got new tires and tire shop broke the sensor...they replaced it but didn't have the equipment to reset and recalibrate. Toyota wanted $100 to do the job. I just drive with the idiot light on.

Land speed records maybe fun to throw around but incriminating stuff...

What are the speed ratings on those Prius tires?

And even more late because of the traffic stop?

In some places, you won't be getting to school at all that day.

Steve Wozniak (Apple co-founder) received a $700 ticket in California for 104 MPH in his Prius.

Typical young crazy punk! What's wrong with you, man? God help you if there's a crash and you kill an innocent person.

Stay off the roads until you grow up! Go play with TOY cars.

On the other side, what's the lowest overage you got ticketed for?

Not in a Prius, but I got ticketed for doing 57 in a 55 on the interstate in Wisconsin. It was back in the late 70s, I was in college and driving a school van on a field trip. Cost me $80 back then. It was most of my monthly budget.

During both 1970s Oil / Energy Crises, there were a number of news stories about tickets being issued at 1 mph over the limit. These started very shortly after the National 55 MPH speed limit was imposed.

When I took Driver Education, coincidentally during the OPEC Oil Embargo / First Energy Crisis, the instructor indicated that folks habitually driving 5 mph over the limit could expect to collect enough points for license revocation in about a year. One of my relatives is now a magistrate judge there, and gets plenty of appeals from folks challenging tickets for 5 mph over. Many of these are from out-of-staters unaware of the fatality rates on those narrow, twisting, short-sight-distance river roads, and accustomed to much greater allowances back home. Many even treat 10-over as a birthright.

Sorry, appeals denied. We all know too many people who died on those highways, many from oncoming vehicles that failed to stay in their own lane coming around corners.

Didn't know about that form of 1970's fuel conservation, but I can see how some police departments would see that as being helpful... Quite the contrast from the early 2000's when W Bush started waging the longest wars in US history primarily to control oil pipeline routes and oil fields, while also removing restrictions on speed limits, as well as gaming the price of gas up to near $5 a gallon. All those 75mph speed limit signs, as well as overpriced gas didn't last very long soon as people woke up to the reality of what the true cost was. Now if we could just stop endlessly mass murdering people in the Mid-east for oil we will soon need much, much less of.

As I've added above, the form of conservation back then was the National 55 mph Speed Limit. The pressures for 1 mph enforcement didn't usually originate with PDs, but rather with governors and other politicians who gave them marching orders.

EPA fuel economy ratings were also initiated during that era.

Yep... I remember selling candy bars for little league baseball to all the cars lined up around the block... That was back when everyone almost over night went from laughing at tiny little Datsuns and Toyota Corinas to being envious and wanting one. That one switch destroyed everything in Detroit for a while.

The Hana highway on Maui immediately comes to mind: you are in no way obligated, to adhere to the limit like glue, in adverse conditions, blind corners.

Hana highway has that in spades, narrows to one lane repeatedly, single lane bridges, blind corners. The locals seems to just blast through. Going to Hana we were lucky. Coming back we literally needed to run off the road and onto the shoulder, twice. Luckily there was something semi-driveable to drive off onto.

The first time was a flatbed truck transporting vehicle, we would not have won. The second: a cop, in a marked CUV, no lights or emergency, just in a hurry to get home I guess.
