    Toyota can’t glue the 18lb semi flexible solar panel to the roof sheet metal because the car will fail crash testing .

    Are you talking about that rumour way back in 2017 when Danny went to Japan to test drive the Prime and someone asked the engineer there.l about a 5-seat version?

    If they would do that the owner could install the car mounted solar panel just like the owner installs 200 lb roof racks and trailer hitches with zero Toyo liability

    Too bad manufacturers don’t operate that way

    The PV option isn't just the panel, it is also a NiMH battery that sits under the rear seat. The panel charges that battery, which will then supply the energy to the car when it is turned on.

    The additional weight for the system is enough that buyers in Europe reported that the solar roof wasn't available in the fully loaded trims.
