Just because you left the Volt did not justify leaving the Clarity out.... hehehe.

Missed it but a quick scan shows it would replace the Volt.

They just announced a Niro BEV with over 200 miles range.

I think it was a case of how much battery they could get into the car without major changes to the suspension and chassis, while minimizing cargo space loss.

Or they designed the hybrid and BEV first, and didn't want to lose more space than the BEV did. Seeing how the PHEV came out last, that might be more likely.

They used the EV1 as a template, which also had a T battery shape.

right. i'm thinking better mpg's, lower ev range and lower cost are a more popular mix

dang - looks like the plugin Pacifica has really picked up steam .... estimates roughly 50% higher sales volume over prior months. Goes to show that bargain shoppers /end of year buyers are out there looking for the deals - like Bob surmised.
Model 3 still killin' all others .... estimates are, they're working to crank out 1,000/day.

If you insist on having the engine in the front, the T-shape battery is probably the best for a PHEV; it has most of the benefits of a flat, skateboard pack. Between it and the liquid cooling, the Volt lost 5 cubic feet of space to the Ioniq PEHV's 4 cu.ft. and Prime's 7.6 cu.ft.
Yeah, 25 to 30 miles of EV range is probably yields the best balance there.

But then it wouldn't have been a Volt.

We are going to have to wait, and see if GM tries another PHEV here.

There have been 'have to meet CAFE' discounts off and on all year, and then the usual end of year discounts. On top of that, there is the changes to the tax law in effect, the Volt is a cheap way to get the full $7500 without worry about charging, and GM is getting close to that 200k number.

Add to this, car sales are still dropping in November.
November auto sales expected to fall as Americans ditch passenger cars

There'll likely be plenty leftovers on the GM lots for at least a couple more months ..... maybe some great end of year deals

Tesla's production and sales model means they can avoid the necessity of discounting. Going to have to look at used for a deal.

I thought there were some nice lease deals for the new Leaf. With their history with air cooling, lease is all I'd do. With the expansion of the Ioniq Electric, and introduction of the Kona and Niro BEVs, You will see Nissan discounting the Leaf, if they aren't already.
