Car powered off and won't turn back on. Was stranded on the side of the road at midnight.

    The Video does not show how to install the cable. I posted it so you can see how to get to the point of being able to install the cable.

    Yup that's the install page I saw.

    Says 1.5 hrs but I know it'll take me longer.

    Wonder if a shop will install for me...

    Yes alot longer lol. It did for me. Plus you break alot of the plastic screws since there 12 years old.

    And its recommended to take out the battery cooling fan and clean the squirrel cage. That fan is mounted high up in the hatch on the passenger side.

    Take your time and make sure you take out the big orange interlock on the drivers side of the battery case before you even think abut doing anything.

    Let me save you a post we see all the time. When you re-install the interlock you push it in then flip up the lever then SLIDE THAT LEVER DOWN TILL IT LOCKS.

    Christ we see that one hundreds of times.

    Thanks. I've read up on that disconnect and it's important.



    So I'm still getting 47mpg and battery is still charging to full...

    But there are times, after it sits for a period, it drops to 1 or 2 bars within 3 min of driving.

    (Usually getting up to speed upon entering a freeway... after which it'll start charging and go back up to near full)

    Cause for concern or normal battery charge/discharge?

    If it’s the original battery it is or will soon be 12 years old. Keep that in mind. It will not preform like it was a new car, the battery does not work that way, regardless of mileage.

    5 yr update on a 15 yr old prius

    Car is still going... for now.
    When I made this thread it had 95k. Now it has 135k.
    Still gets 35-40 mpg but mostly because my commute is shorter now.

    Burns a little oil.
    Dash goes out intermittently but I do the headlight trick and it typically returns.
    Still throws the odd P1121/P116 code but I still don't use the heater.

    It threw the P0A93 code the other day during a hard acceleration.
    Investigated and didn't see turbulence in the reservoir.
    Also noticed the radiator itself was a little low.
    So I'm just monitoring for now.
    (May need to do inverter pump again/Replaced it 5 years ago)

    I'm a first responder and I had planned on upgrading eventually
    (but car prices are so high right now)
    Hopefully soon...

    Move up to 40 weight oil and keep it slightly above the full line that will help with your oil eating.

    Is Amazon/eBay an ok place to get the pump?

    I see them from $40+, up to $120 for "genuine toyota"

    ebay has used OEM for 50+

    You often "get what you pay for". I usually have good results purchasing an OE part from a brick and mortar store or from a reputable online source (ie- Toyota dealer). Quality for aftermarket parts can be very questionable, and ebay or amazon are prime sources for counterfeit parts.

    Thats fair. I picked up a used OEM (dont plan on keeping car forever)

    and will do the work myself through the headlight. Will report back.

    I dont recall where I got my last inverter pump but it lasted 40k miles.

    If it lasts another 40k, I will be satisified.

    Took about 1.5 hours for install. (Could probably do in an hour)

    Hardest thing was working in the mid-day sun.

    Barely lost coolant (blocked bottom hose first) and also used a 1/4" inner diameter hose to bleed the system too.

    Turbulence has returned to the Coolant Reservoir.

    Yep AAA is the best. Used it many times lol.

    Only bummer is range limit is now 25 miles then extra charge after that.

    My commute is 40+ miles each way. I spring for the "plus" membership. I think that still covers 100 miles of towing.
