The paper work says Prius II, that is what I go by. If there wasn't a "II", then Toyota miss labeled it.
    Okay, again, wording........
They are NOT automatic on/off headlamps. I guess I just didn't go enough into details....
They DO shut off after a set period of time IF the car is turned off.
It's a law in Florida to have the headlamps ON if it's raining. But if no rain, and it's not dark, there is NO reason to
run the lights. If someone can't see a vehicle in the daylight, they should NOT be driving! :)

I drove my 2008 Prius with the headlights on all the time, probably why I had to change so many HID bulbs.
I like the new cars with the daytime driving lights to get your attention.

Oh? That's extremely disappointing. What if I were to buy a charger, *plus* a heavy duty jumper for the sole purpose of powering the charger/other electronics if say, I go camping?

Noted, but I *did* drive it, for more than a half hour. Should be fine? We'll see.

I just bought (yet another) Clore JNC660 for someone this christmas, makes three I've bought now. Was on sale at Napa Auto for $200 (199.99 ). They're basically a compact battery, in a heavy duty case, with solid cables, and a built-in charger (auto shut-off). Plus a 12 volt (cig. lighter style) outlet. You plug it into household current with an extension cord (it has a two prong 120 volt connector on the front face), every 3 months or so, or after use, to top it up. It also comes with a 12 volt to 12 volt cable (cig lighter male at both ends), so you can actually charge it up with your car. Typical scenario would be to lay it in the passenger footwell, and run the cable to the 12 volt socket in the dash, charge it while driving. A compatible battery (if/when it needs replacing) is now available through CT for around $70.

I use it very occasionally for jumpstarting, family members cars or good samaritan. There's an outside chance I'll never need it again, having bought everybody one now. I also use it with a memory saver cable, when swapping car batteries; it's 12 volt at one end and OBD at the other (just the power pins), and has indicator lights so you know you have a good connection.

The only mislabeling I see is in your profile:

    upload_2019-2-4_10-56-26.png
That last sentence displays a serious cluelessness about other climate zones.

Maybe daytime headlights are needless in your zone. But Canada and all Scandinavian countries require headlights (or DRLs) full time, even in daylight, due to their climate. Living next door to Canada, my climate is much more similar to theirs than to yours. All Subarus have DRLs standard now, some other brands standardized them in the U.S. much earlier for safety reasons.

Update, works! Don't seem to need a new battery. Thanks everyone.

    WHAT are you crying about???
Do you have nothing else to do than trying to argue?
    There is NO miss labeling.
I stated "in Florida". I just made a statement. I have no idea what other states or countries laws are.
If you want to have your headlamps on, turn them on. I could care less.

It is the original battery, but quite literally the same day it got drained I took it to the Toyota dealership for spark plug replacement, all recalls and full maintenance checkup. Battery was "good health".

My first JNC660 didn't have the auto shut off charger, and it's a bit of a pain. My son has it now, and is pretty organized: charges it overnight every 3 months, uses phone reminder.

I've thought about upgrading it, putting in an auto charger, but you'd also need to mod the case I think, add a pair of status LED's: charging and done. (n)

If I may...you might want to start shopping for a replacement. An 8 year old 12 VDC car battery is pushing the envelop of normal. Yes, there will be those that will say..."Well mine lasted 10 years"...but that is the exception...not the norm. 5 years is considered good. ;)

Anyway...glad it all worked out for ya.

Eight years isn’t pushing it...most batteries are lasting between 12-15 years, and frankly, who has the disposable income to change theirs at the eight year mark before it’s even an issue? Its just not one of those proactive maintenance options. Draining it once isn’t going to create a problem.

I mean, I do, but I used it all on a coolant swap, spark plug change and comprehensive maintenance (plus some side components for an ongoing project (; ), and I'll need a brake pad replacement at the end of the month.
So I'm trying to budget for a bit

o_O What planet are you from?

Even in my mild nowrthwest coastal climate, 12-15 years is essentially unheard of for 12V automotive batteries. Inland, with hotter summers and colder winters, batteries have even shorter lives.

I have a 2011 with 125,000 miles, and just changed the spark plugs in August, the original brakes are still great and I live in Atlanta with crazy stop and go traffic, and everything else is original. These are seriously the lowest maintenance cars. I’d suggest getting a second opinion, about what really needs to be done, but if I had disposable income, I wouldn’t waste money improving an old model that didn’t need it, I’d just get a new one.

I’m on my original batteries with the 2011. They are still reading good in Atlanta. Guess there is another reason to love this area of the country.
