    Our1vue,

Thanks for replying. That’s what I am hoping because I have not passed the voltage regulator yet so it’s not completed.

I want to modify the inline voltage regulator but mine looks different than the one in this write up. There’s one resistor instead of two.
    Picture below. Any suggestions?

    Boywander,
It looks like you have a 12V camera ? Note the 12V on both sides of the circuit board On ours it has 12V on one side and
3.3V on the other. Can you connect the camera to a 12V battery and measure the voltage between the red and black wires ?
    I've never seen a real 12V camera.

I did that last night. Powered 12V into the board and measured the output on the 3 wires camera side. It stepped down from 12v to 3.1 volts.

    Boywander,
Your regulator had me worried there for a second :). I'm not an EE so I don't know how to modify it. A user by
the name of Willco Electronics was the one that modified his regulator. Maybe you can PM him ? I went the "build
your own" regulator route because I thought I could solder 3 components on a circuit board without messing it up.

    Update:

On my inline power regulator, I removed the resistor 220 then soldered on a wire (I used multi strand since I didn’t have single core wire) as in the picture below:

    IMG_3096.jpg

    Power input 12.26v
    IMG_3094.jpg

Through the regulator the output was on target at 3.26v
    IMG_3090.jpg

I’m waiting for the snow storm to pass to install it..

    Boywander,
Are you planning to power the camera via the headunit ? If that is the case then you need to make sure your regulator
can turn 6.5 volts into 3.3 volts. Powering via the headunit takes care of the camera detection sequence.

Removing that resistor makes the regulator dump out 3.26v regardless of the input being 12v or 7.7v
    Or 6.4v. See photos:

    IMG_3100.jpg

    IMG_3097.jpg

The output is the same 3.26v

    IMG_3102.jpg

It should work with 3.26v close enough to 3.5v

    boywander,
Sounds good. I just wanted to know if you tested it with 6.5V as the input. I think the cameras are 3.3V so an output of
    3.26 is perfect.

    boywander,
I seem to remember someone ordered pins from somewhere that didn't work. Not saying that yours won't work,
but if things aren't working, check the connection between the male and the female pins.

Thanks for the tip. The only thing that is holding me up is the pins. Because I want a clean install at the headliner and so it’s going to take longer. I just ordered a dozen of the female from a seller in Japan. Hopefully it’ll come by next weekend via EMS.

Got the package from Japan today.

I can tell from the packaging that they take pride in shipping these tiny terminal ends taped in that box inside the envelope.

Bringing this thread back from the dead! I just got a 2013 II that I want to add a camera to, and was wondering if anyone has come across a 6v camera that doesn't require having to build a voltage regulator for? I'm fairly comfortable with wiring and all, but that has me a bit intimidated. Thanks!

    gKnow,
The only time I've seen a 6V camera is in kits that include the wiring harness and the camera. PYvideo has a kit on
amazon. Not sure it will work on a 2013, but it has a 6v camera. 12V cameras are cheap and all over the place.
You can buy complete voltage regulators. All you have to do is wire it in, adjust it to the correct voltage,
and you are good to go. If you have any EE friends, they can build you a voltage regulator in under 15 minutes.

Anyone ever used the toycam1 adapter with any success, as an alternative to tapping inri the oem plug?

So I did an install on my 2013 Prius Two, I got it working but it seems there's something not quite right and I need help diagnosing it. I used this Camera and got this harness to go with it.

I mostly used the harness, and tapped into the power through the cigarette lighter socket was the only splicing I did. It was working the first few days, but today and yesterday it worked well when I first started the car but later on when setting it in reverse, the screen would just be black. I tried turning off the car and back on and this time it would not even go to black screen anymore after putting it in reverse. This weird working then not working after driving a while has happened twice so far.

What are the possible causes? Could the camera be getting overloaded or something? I don't have a step up/down thing but it was working and I'd assume it would just not work altogether if that's the voltage is wrong. I don't think any wiring/connections are getting loose since if that's the case it would be more finicky right?

Appreciate any help you guys can give!

Hello friends, I am from Georgia. I bought an American Toyota Prius gen 3. I want to install a rear view camera. I have a camera panasonic cy-rc51kd. I just wonder how to connect the yellow video cable to the monitor? thanks

Before Order the backup camera kit, just want to be sure 2013 II HU without Nav still work?

Must order backup camera kit with specifically with 6v regulator? and T-Harness connector ? T-Harness connect can be DIY without order? please advise.

I just did this camera upgrade on a 2014 Prius Two. Radio is non-JBL, non-Entune, just the base model touchscreen with no Apps button (model 57031). Ordered this camera from Crutchfield:

    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_249RCTY71/Crux-RVCTY-71-Backup-Camera-System.html

Important to note that this camera is 6V, so you will need to use the harness that comes with the camera to tie into the existing factory radio (it does have an empty plug that this will plug into). The radio supplies the 6V power to the camera. Once plugged up, the radio will automatically "know" there's a camera there, and will work when in reverse (no settings to change).

I chose to ground using the black wire in the hatch, and taped off the red wire.
Up front, the yellow from the harness will go to the red pigtail from the RCA. Tape off the black. That's it, easy peasy. The two looped wires at the back (image control and gridlines) will need no action, allow them to stay as they are from the factory.

Pros for using this camera are reasonably low cost (under $60), and the install is dead simple - I had everything done in under two hours, and I have only mild experience doing installs and upgrades on vehicles. The downside of this is the 6V current. I chose to upgrade the head unit right after, and now the 6V is a sticking point with the aftermarket head unit. Definitely wish I'd gone with a 12V camera now.
