The 2010 Prius Warranty and Maintenance Booklet is available here:

It’s 10k miles unless you operate a majority of the time under “Special Operating Conditions”. Reference .pdf page #40, booklet page #38. (Definition of the superscript #1).

The dealers should have replaced the oil at the yearly mark, no matter how little miles you put on the car, or 10k miles, whichever came first. There were posts here that some were able to convince their dealer to change at the 5k mile mark, claiming or proving they somehow primarily use the car under those special operating conditions. Ours fell under the 10k miles/yr but I did not have trouble with getting the oil change done, (at least on paper).

    SOOOOO.......I guess it IS true.
And I said "depending on model".

Some incorrect assumptions are being made here, but it's a fairly common misunderstanding.

Seem like the in-between-the-lines here, is not so much when to change the oil, as getting the dealership to change the oil, during the "free" period. I'm kinda glad we don't have that up here. I DIY change my oil every 6 months or 8000 kms, at my convenience, no big deal.

Depends on the service manual. Early ones stated 5,000 mile oil changes.
