Mileage brags - personal bests or unusual highs

That's terrific mileage. I'm familiar with the area you are traversing and it's a wonder you can accomplish that with the traffic.
Love to brag about the C's capabilities. Posted my car's best tank (with photo) in the old "Top 20" thread last year, but I'll brag about one part of that tank. I've noted here before that my Fuelly number is inflated by a weekly cross-Massachusetts trip on (mostly) back roads.
Weather and traffic conditions were both close to perfect on Tuesday, July 4th, 2017 and I achieved my PR for that trip:
92.0 mpg for the westbound leg; and 95.9 mpg for the 200 mile round-trip. (Both numbers from the display. FWIW, that full tank calculated mpg was 4% below the displayed mpg.)

 

My personal best $1.11 per gallon of gas in 2002... And I see you're now down to $1.77 already... Not much longer till you break my record! ;-)

 

I guess my record of $1.11 per gallon is much safer now!

 

Now, I've put up this picture once before (in the newbie forum), but I figured I might as well put it up here.

This is from near the end of a commute, from the start of January. It says "40.1 km/l", which is 94.3 mpg (US). I can usually get around 35 km/l on my way home. A few contributing factors:

1. While it is cold, it's not super-cold. It's usually between 10 and 15 Celsius (50 to 60 F), so I don't need to turn on the heater.
2. Most of the route is downhill. Not like a proper "I need to engage B-mode" downhill, but y'know, enough. I didn't even notice that it was downhill until I started driving a hybrid.
3. Thanks to traffic, I rarely get to drive faster than 60 mph. Usually, I'm stuck puttering around at 40 mph or less.

It was frustrating in a manual. In an automatic...? The challenge is keeping awake so I don't accidentally ram someone.

 

This is all true, but it also factors in that the computer knows specifically how much fuel has been burned, whereas the old tried and true, fill it to the click method can have slight inconsistencies which could be off by almost a half gallon, depending on the pump. It is always on the generous side, though, so I do agree that it's probably to make the car look good mentally to the driver who doesn't keep records.

My personal best for a tank was 66.6 mpg. I was doing a 130 mile per day round trip commute to Baltimore at the time, so that was about 3.5 days of driving. The fairly level terrain helped. I have a shorter 54 milero7nd trip now, but is is much hillier, so I’ve been struggling to hit the high 50s.

 

Not bad for such short trips. It's fun trying to beat your records, right?!

 

Now that it's getting warmer I can cruise around without the climate control so the numbers are rising.

All city driving. I was told if I get the vvt-i valve modification I can get constantly 30 kilometers per liter even on highway speeds

 

So, just got my 2016 Prius C and no prior experience with a hybrid. Got this the other day with a lot of traffic. It varies a lot going by the dash anyway. Not even on my second tank yet, so no actual numbers. Just curious, why does Consumer Reports say this car only gets 36 mph in the city? I never seen anything that low.

 

I'm kinda jealous...lol...I'm only pulling 52-53mpg atm and I'm so conscious of my driving and staying in ECO ranges, using battery as best I can before engine kicks in. Even keeping heater low or off during cooler days so the engine doesn't kick on. lol. Commute is about 35 miles per day 5 days...maybe 210 miles per 7 day week, 1/4 highway, 3/4 side roads, Reg gas, sometime mid-grade. All basic things maintained on car (air filters, oil, tires, etc). Oh well. Im thankful for what I can get but would be kinda amazing to pull something like 70 or more mpg. Thanks for sharing the posts above.

 

You are doing it the reverse way buddy. To get 60+ numbers you will have to accelerate using your ICE and glide with battery at sub 30mph. Unless its really slow stop and go traffic always use ICE to speed up. So this is what happens 1. Your acceleration and deceleration will charge up your battery to supply your glide. If you go over 40mph use your ICE.

 

Hi Max...thanks for your feedback! The ICE usually kicks in to get the car up to 35-40 then I cruise on battery to the next light or till the battery looses energy. My side roads are peppered with red lights and speed limits maxing out at 40mph...so 1/2 of my trip is on side roads with stop and go traffic with some cruising gaps. Highway is highway and that's all ICE for me around 55mph, which is the other 1/2 of my commute. I'll try to accelerate more by using ICE on side roads and then look to kick it back to battery once I hit the speed I need, but at this point, I'm just not sure it is much different than what I'm doing already. Any more thoughts or feedback is welcome.
