I’m trying to order new pistons, ring set and a new connecting rod for my rebuild, but I’m running into a problem of different part numbers listed in the TSB and from different dealers. I’ve included pics of the TSB and 2 different dealers. Notice that the part numbers are all different. Any input or recommendations? I need to order these today if at all possible

The superseded part numbers are apparently "redesigned" replacements to curb the old problem of oil blowby in early Gen 3 Prius models.

Yes, I know that the parts have been updated but how do I know if I will get the correct and most recently updated part?

To get those screen shots, what year of Prius are you entering on the dealership websites?

I'd be inclined to tell the websites you have a 2015, search for "piston" and "piston ring set", and then you should ge the parts numbers per the tsb.

If I recall correctly, @Ragingfit was also advocating to use 4th gen Prius parts, at least for the ring set? Perhaps he can comment.

    I would not rush this.

I just put in 2015 in the camelback website and the number match the TSB for piston and ring set but not for the connecting rod. The TSB says connecting rod 13201-09A30 but the dealership says 13201- 09A10

Go with the tsb connecting rod?

I'm thinking the TSB parts numbers are the last word, but don't shoot me, lol. I'd be inclined to just get pistons and rings. Are you getting connecting rods just in case? Or is s everything apart already, and you've checked against specs.?

I think the dealership website database (and probably any Toyota database) is defective, if they give anything other than the TSB parts numbers for the pistons and/or ring sets.

Another example: if you enter intake manifold for early gen 3 years, you DO see the updated intake manifold. Seems to me the pistons and ring sets should be the same story.

Again, @Ragingfit was advocating 4th gen ring set. It is yet another parts number. But maybe you don't want to go there.

Can you delay and talk to someone in the know at toyota. They really could shed some light I think.

The dealerships here can’t give me a straight answer on anything. I trust Priuschat more than my local dealer

I have a bent connecting rod and I need only one

I checked 2016~2018 pistons and piston ring sets at McGeorge, they're all the same, and diff nos than third gen. Still, may very well be compatible:

Just talked to another dealer. The A30 connecting rod supercedes the A10

Another dealer says those two connecting rods are different parts. I just placed my order and I used the part numbers from the TSB

The dealer just called and said that according to my vin I ordered the wrong parts. He asked where I got the part numbers and I told him the TSB. He then said well it looks like your car was made in October 2013. To sum it up he said I ordered the correct parts after all

    Good to know. The dilemma:

You can go to a dealership parts website, say you've got a 2010 (for example), ask for pistons or ring set, and it'll still dutifully serve up the "correct" old parts (per the tsb). That's not good.

I'm still curious if 4th gen pistons and ring set would also be fine, better in any way. In the absence of documentation, best to be cautious.

I’m going with the TSB parts and will hope I can get another 200k miles out of it
