2010 prius loss of communication. Codes u133, u129, and u155. Happened suddenly while driving. Mechanic can't find the issue. Car will start, but will shut off once put into gear. Any suggestions?

I think these are subcodes... Is there a code that points to what these codes are associated with? Also how many miles on car and any other symptoms prior to it not working after shifting into drive?

Communication DTCs generally do start with U, but they should be five characters, not four. Is it possible these weren't quite transcribed right?

I think the leading 0 was just left off.

Just for the sake of argument, hook a jump box, or cables to the jump point under the hood and see if the car will go into gear/stay in ready. If it does, you jsut need a 12v battery.

Even if you add a zero or letter O at the start of those error codes, there's still no trace of them ever being mentioned on PriusChat or elsewhere. Without the mechanic explaining why they claim nonsensical error codes that they can't fix, there's no way we can help other than telling original poster to go to a real mechanic.

Yes there was a mention of “Multiple Loss of Communication errors” on a November 2018 thread. I think the lack of any other codes besides those three says to test or replace 12v and see what happens.

We should fix that. I'll mention the U codes that are covered in the 2010 Repair Manual:

    U0073, U0100, U0101, U0104, U0110, U0122, U0123, U0124, U0126, U0129, U0131, U0140, U0142, U0146, U0151, U0155, U0164, U0235, U0293, U029A, U0327, U0424, U1000, U1002, U1100, U1104, U1105, U1107, U110B, U1119, U1133.

That way they should come up in a search, and folks'll know where to get more information.

The only one from this post that I don't see is U0133, so I wonder if that one got transcribed funny.

U0129 is loss of communication with the brake ECU, and U0155 is loss of communication with the combination meter.

Edit: U1133 (in case that's what the funny one really was) is loss of communication with the "PMN module". Your guess.... I think it might be the "park" switch.

You could be on to something ... that's the column the ○ appears in, in the CAN No. 1 Bus DTC combination table.
