Where would you install dashcam with the safety sensor box at the center top of windshield?

Since the box is a bit long so I wonder where you guys place your dashcam. Just checked that my local law (California) permits left (5x5") and right (7x7") corner and center top (5x5")..... Do people place dashcam at the corners?

My Garmin is mounted along the top of the windshield - left of the center box. Just left of the rear view mirror (because the camera has a screen that shouldn't be hidden. I have hardwired it to the center light so that it is on when the car is on.

I put mine to the right of the safety pod. Can’t see it from the driver’s seat, so it isn’t blocking anything that wasn’t already blocked by the mirror or pod.

I have found that sometimes it is necessary to see if the camera is "on". Maybe it is just my Garmin, but sometimes I get the message that it is still in shutdown mode and needs to be re-booted. I would hate for that to happen on the one occasion that matters...

In Japan, Toyota sells drive recorders as a dealer-installed option, and the standard installation location for the forward-looking camera is just to the left of the rain sensor. Indeed, even on U.S. models, there’s a notch in the roof headlining for the cord guide, as described in my previous posting.

When I installed mine, I put it to the right of the rear view mirror assembly, out of the driver’s view. The main unit is in the center console, and when the car starts, it beeps once, if working, or speaks a warning message in Japanese, otherwise.

I have mine directly under the 'gubbins' and I can't even see it from the drivers seat and it gives a perfect view of the road ahead.

Mine is on a bracket clamped to the mirror mounting stem and hangs just below the mirror. That way it's not trapped and roasting between the windshield and the sun screen when I'm parked.

As far as I know that’s only a concern when the device contains certain kinds of batteries, e.g. lithium-ion. I picked a dashcam that has no battery at all to eliminate these concerns.

I have seen a forgotten phone inflate its battery (thankfully without combustion) in a hot car. Scary! The foil pack blew up like a balloon and burst the whole phone open.
