I think the place I bought it from did buy a “new” battery, but they got hosed l, which in turn means I’m getting hosed.
The car place is trying to get the receipt for the batter so they can exchange it/get their money back.
Meanwhile I’m not comfortable driving this thing anywhere but home or somewhere to get the battery replaced.

Just compare the new to the old.

If they're doing the installation, they won't sell you a battery that doesn't fit.

If you have ever looked at battery terminals the original ones will be the smallest ones you have ever seen

A jump box connected to the front jump points will easily start the car. If jumping from a car it’s best the jumping car isn’t running, you need very little power to start a Prius. No need to worry.

    True.

The guy at Pep Boys is saying the Bosch battery terminals are too big for the Prius and I need the Optima which cost $253 after the discount.
Bosch is about $160 installed with the discount

They make a Bosch battery with the little terminals. Several people here have one. Try this website for a dealer internet discount on a battery. Just choose counter pickup and no shipping charges. You would have to install it yourself though.

Owners manual says to run engine on donor car for 5 minutes, at slightly raised rpm, IIRC. Check the manual confirm, the hook up sequence too.

There IS a compatible Bosch at pep boys, or there was.

I was able to find a Toyota shop close by in Oakland that has the Toyota batteries. Unfortunately, no Internet discount, so it’s $216 plus tax, but has a 7 year warranty.
I’ll check the Pep Boys ones as well Thanks!

50 minutes of charging is useless. 11v is dead. But will usually turn over a Prius.

Of course. I knew it wouldn’t re-charge it but I had to get it home. Hopefully it starts in the morning so I can at least get it to Pep Boys etc.

I think you recall incorrectly. There is no need to have the donor car running at all, let alone for 5 min at a raised RPM. That sounds like old procedure for regular cars.

Not sure how necessary it is, but this is the North American Owner's Manual text:

When my 12v battery needs replacing, I plan on using a Mobility Battery. They are designed for Deep Discharge, so leaving the Prius for a week or 2 without driving is not a problem. I think Battery Plus has one for around $100.

It might say that in the owners manual but we all know you don’t have to do that. Probably canned language for every Toyota model.
