I had a blowout in my project work/shop Prius yesterday before my new tires could arrive. So like the scavenger I am I went through all my local sources and found a brand new set of 185 65 r15 Firestone Champion fuel fighter tires. I have no idea about these other than they are normally over or close to $100 each plus tax I bought these for $200. Any ideas of the quality of these tires? 20191013_173034.jpeg 20191013_173039.jpeg

Glad to see fate pushed you to the fuel efficient tire market...

It's hard to find comparisons that show the numbers. I'd like to see these compared to ecopia's and Michelin, the enduring leaders of highest MPG over the years. I also found this comparison:

Also here's what these folks say about your choice: @ Buyer's Guide: The 10 Best Fuel-Efficient Tires and Low Rolling Resistance Tires - AutoGuide.com

Fuel savings are front and center with this popular and affordable passenger car tire from Firestone. An all-season tire intended for use on coupes, sedans, minivans and crossovers, the Firestone Champion Fuel Fighter tires feature a unique feature set that focuses on enhanced fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and a comfortable ride.

Special design elements combine the effectiveness of a silica-based all-season compound with a symmetrical design that ensures even wear, easy rotatability, and a long service life. Interconnected water evacuation grooves keep hydroplaning to a minimum, and optimized biting edges work to provide improved traction on slippery or loose surfaces. Firestone’s Fuel Fighter technology is employed in full force, and sees materials, design, construction, and tread patterning all designed with a keen focus on fuel efficiency.

    • Pros/Strict focus on fuel savings, Owners report enhanced ride comfort, Affordable pricing
    • Cons/Some owners report faster-than-expected wear, Some owners wish for better wet traction as the tires age

I just lucked up and found a good deal and jumped on it. Hopefully in the future while keeping up with my gas vs milage I'll see some good numbers out of these I've never heard about this brand till today.

Yeah, I'm the same with never heard of 'em... Of course when it comes to MPG the higher the tire pressure the better the MPG, at least until you lose traction and die. I've found the sweet spot is 47 up front and 45 in the rear for Ecopias and the people who think that too much PSI leads to uneven tire pressure are 100% wrong.

Lower tire pressure equals more friction, faster wear, and lower milage on asphalt. Hence why in the south when we go off roading we let the air out for grip and traction but air up our off road tires while driving asphalt.

IMO, a set of new, safe, decent set of tires for $200 is a good deal.
I'm not a fan of Firestone, but they are a name brand, and OEM on a lot of vehicles. So I'd say $200 for that set of tires? How can you lose? If you get 2-3 years out of them, it's a win. If you get more? It's a big win.

I'm assuming these are new, not used.

Mounted and balanced the tires an hour ago at the garage. Imo they ride a little noisy but at the same time the car runs smoothly and handles excellent. I cant wait to see if theres a slight increase in milage and how they handle on a wet road.

Maybe they'll quiet down once they get a little worn?

Lol no labels I removed them before I balanced them. The tread on these tires are a little aggressive and they definitely have alot of meat on them at 11/32 tread depth

Don't expect to have any sense of MPG from them until you've run a couple tanks of gas through them. MPG on brand new tires is always awful.

Some more than others. I've had a new set of tires that really hit-the-ground-running (Bridgestone Ecopia EP20 on a previous car), but with our latest tire renewal (Michelin Primacy MXM4 215/45R17), the first tank was abysmal, and it took time and effort to climb outa the hole. Seem headed back into the hole too, with winter getting closer. :(

Yea... I can't imagine buying any other tire for a Prius than Ecopias...

I think the Ecopia EP422 Plus are available in 215/45R17 too. Ah well.

Winter wont affect milage much if planned out correctly and well thought out. Block warmers provide a warmer car faster saving your battery usage. Tested it last year

The wiring on my block heater went sizzle/pop about 3 weeks back, right behind the connection to the unit. They're going to give me a new one gratis, if/when they ever get stock. Waiting for 3 weeks now, watching our short-trip mpg tank.

We got it put in eight-o'clock-day-one, and used it virtually constantly, before first cold start of the day, fwiw.

    542 miles ÷ 11gal fuel =49.27 mpg
First tank numbers on new tires at 45psi front and 42psi rear. I feathered the gas pedal while driving stayed at or below 70mph doing my commuting feathering the pedal and putting the car in B mode going off the mountain I live on daily

Wow... Those tires are impressive... Of course they're Firestone, so if they blow up and you die it's not their fault, just the cost of doing business. :) And this time they got a better system in place so too many people don't find out. :)
