Featured Gen 4 battery for gen 3

Even if it fits, the charging circuitry is different: Gen3 battery is NiMH, Gen4 battery is Li-Ion. Is the voltage even the same?

 

Some gen4's have NiMH, which should work, but won't offer much of an improvement.

 

2004-2015 are interchangeable...

 

What's your point? If you'd like to contribute, maybe you could do so in a more substantive way?

as far as I know toyota didn't sell gen 4 from 2004-2015, so the answer is pretty much a no-answer /

 

According to the school in Wisconsin, I forget his name but he has the hybrid school,
the generation four has the option of either type of battery. I might of miss heard him,
but he discussed it when he was taking apart the newer batter. You can't turn them upside down.

 

Actually, people have used gen 4 cells in gen 2 batteries as well as gen 3. The cases are different, so you'd have to transplant the cells. And you need to use cells from one of the gen 4 models with NiMH batteries. For a 2019 or 2020 MY, that would be only from the AWD version. For 2018 and earlier, trims one and two had NiMH.

 

If I bought a flashlight in 2019 that uses 4 "D" cell batteries, could I take those "D" cells batteries out and use them in a different model flashlight I bought back in 2005 if it also uses 4 "D" cell batteries?

 

Most likely not. The 2005 bulb probably be burnt, positive and/or negative contacts be corroded.

 

The salvage yards here list the 2016 and newer batteries by the type of battery, ie, NiMH or lithium ion. At least that’s how car-part.com shows them.

 

If your flashlight recharged itself and had lots of overly-picky sensors your 2005 NiMH "D" cell batteries is what the flashlight was designed for and your 2019 Lithium-based "D" cell batteries might be treated unfairly by your 2005 flashlight sensors and chargers.

Or maybe more to the point... Does the inverter process and send a charge to battery based on a NiMH algorithm?

 

You guys really over complicate the heck out of everything......I had a STACK of HV batteries removed from 2016 and 2017 wrecks....NiMH models. Yes, some are Lithium Ion, but it's blatantly obvious those are different and not interchangeable with an NiMH. Especially since one has stickers on the top that say NiMH and the other has has a different shaped case with stickers that say Li-on.

The three closest in the photo are Gen 4 NiMH and one in back on passenger side. Modules are 100% replacements for the Gen 2 and 3 but have a slightly different top visually. Perfect for a full 28 module swap-out. The vent tube fittings are on the modules, but have no vent hole inside them, and no rubber vent tubes.

 

Todd down here at Tampa Hybrids does the same. Transplants full sets of Gen 4 NiMH modules (and also Gen 3) into Gen 2 & 3 battery cases. Next best thing to a new battery. My wife's '07 has a set of 2015 modules for those who haven't seen those posts from a couple years ago.

 

Can you share the link? Myself and others would love to see what a gen4 stack looks like on a Gen2 or Gen 3 chassis?
