Do people still recommend this? And if so will the dealers disable it for you?

it's not a recommendation, just a personal choice.

dealers will do it, some free, others not. don't be afraid to ask your sales critter if they try to charge you

Will do thanks. I was just wondering if there was a benefit to leaving it on I didn’t know about.

It's the only car I know which has a reverse beeper INSIDE the car and NONE outside. Ridiculous - the dealer should do it for free or find another dealer. While you're at it, get them to activate Remote open for your windows if it hasn't been done already.

Are you talking Gen 4 though?

I’m not sure it’s an unalloyed good, even from a safety perspective. Continuous beeping inside the car may mask important sounds from outside the car, such as a shouted warning or horn honking, just when hearing such sounds is most important: while backing, often in parking lots or other congested places.

I decided that one beep, plus the continuous reverse camera display and R⃞ shift position indicator, was enough for me. So far, it’s the only setting I’ve customized using the Toyota Techstream diagnostic system.

I told the dealership that I wanted it disabled before I took delivery of the car. They didn't do it of course when the car came in. I had to take it back but it wasn't a major hassle. The car will still sound a single beep. But the constant migraine dispensing beeping is gone.

It can not be disabled, but can be changed to a single beep, IIRC. I for one changed to a single beep, but returned it to a continuous beep. Both I and my wife prefer that way, so we know when the gear is in reverse.

You'd love my new Limited, with its proximity warning beeps! Between the reverse beeper, and the proximity warning telling me that my garage opening is narrow and to watch out, backing out of the garage is frazzling. (I'm going to hook up Techstream and disable the backup beeping.)

No - though I suppose it is possible, but you wouldn't. It's got 7 organs built in, including 4 Classical organs, and Wurlitzer, Barton and Morton Theatre Organs - all the sounds are digitally sampled, including the tremulants. I'm really a classical/Church organist, but do tinker with Theatre on occasions.
