Featured Federal electric tax credit not extended this year.

    Tesla used the credit well, as intended... building a base of customers for a new automaker.

    GM squandered their credits, using them for conquest sales rather than intended... changing established customers for a legacy automaker.

    Credits shouldn't be extended anyway. A better use would be helping build infrastructure instead... upgrades at home.

    That's until triggering phaseout, which then means switching to a time constraint but with UNLIMITED quantity.

    I actually like it more than the original. There is still a limit per manufacturer, however, it also has a time limit so someone sitting on the sideline for too long doesn't get an unfair advantage.

    agreed, and low income folks who buy a used low cost EV would get a $2500 tax credit (which they still probably can’t use but it’s something)

    the trouble is 45 of the 50 US states still sell in the hundreds (a dozen states are lucky to break 2 digit sales)
    and are likely several decades away from 1%

    if our intent is in increasing acceptance we need different policy for each area.

    Benchmarks are likely needed and states who go the wrong direction should loose highway funding for bad decisions.

    (No sense cramming cars into areas that already buy plenty anyway or taxing the $&@“ out of them in areas without any meaningful adoption)

    Aka: I don’t think a credit alone will help adoption in areas with a lot of barriers to plug in (let alone Bev) adoption

    Certain people have danced around what that really means. They are those who refer to sales as "EV Market" rather than acknowledge the consumers who legacy dealerships actually serve. Reality has since crashed down on them... as confirmed by their silence.

    It was interesting to watch them turn a blind-eye to what the quantity of 200,000 really represented. That's less than 10% of Toyota's production for just a single year in just the United States. Spread over an entire decade (from 2009 to 2019), those truly in support of reaching mainstream buyers in any "meaningful" way, they knew volume & profit must be achieved prior to triggering phaseout.

    The antagonists upset to see Toyota doing exactly that declare "laggard" to make their misunderstanding of market not sting as as much. It's a vindication for those who pushed for genuine change, not just praise for technical achievement or short-term gain. This is why any next-step to subsidize adoption should be focused on infrastructure instead.

    Again, new money as an incentive to choose a plug-in vehicle should now be used toward upgrades at home. Where you park overnight should get those funds. That is a permanent investment which will deliver benefit for decades to come, well beyond just the purchase of single vehicle.

    My guess is the rav 4 phev will get the full $7500. No one knows battery size for sure but its likely the max or close for tax credit.

    The Canadian Toyota media release originally stated a 17+ kwh battery capacity. They have since deleted that info on their website but not before a certain eagle eyed PChat member found it.

    With more powerful motor-generators, a newly developed high-capacity 17.8 kWh Lithium-Ion battery and a booster converter, the 2021 RAV4 Prime yields an 83 horsepower (hp) jump in total system output over the RAV4 Hybrid and has the most horsepower in its segment. The resulting boost in performance is striking: Toyota’s projected 0-96 km/h acceleration in 5.8 seconds is quicker than the RAV4 Hybrid (7.8 seconds) and in a league with luxury/performance SUVs that come nowhere near this Toyota’s remarkable fuel economy. And, notably, the RAV4 Prime uses regular-grade gasoline -- just not much of it.
