Ah, good to know. Our son's Mazda CX-5 has front jacking point way back, but it has more ground clearance. For the first few pumps it's like playing the world's smallest violin, but once it lifts a bit it improves.

Yeah I just have in my mind, to use two layers of 2x10.

The price is high too... :(

LOL! Reminds me of the guy complaining to one parts store. Something like, "If everything is as high as your prices, I'll bet you have to take off your shirt to use the toilet!" :ROFLMAO:

    Trip report:
I took my wife to St. Augustine for her birthday this week. What a treat!! We loved soaking up the history and the weather kept it interesting. Blue, cloudless skies make for boring pictures.

As for the car? Still stellar!
We shunpiked going over there and were only on I-75 a short ways. Drove mostly EV while there since there was a place to plug in at the Air B&B. I did't know that we would be able to do that, though, so we got there with about 50% SOC. Total trip was 405.6 miles with 68.7 mpg showing on the car's display. About 75 of those miles were in and around town, mostly EV. Coming home, we went non-stop very comfortably with lots more miles on I-75. It was 181.3 miles at an indicated 63.0 mpg.

Transportation cost? About 5.9 gallons of gas at about $2.45/gallon is $14.42 plus maybe 60 cents of electricity that I'll use to refill the battery before I drive again. Call it $15 for a round number. (That's about 3.6 cents per mile. WOW!!) Wind, by the way was as usual -- against us both ways. About 5-15 mph going over and only about 3-5 coming home.

Oh! One more thing. Driving EV only at the slow speeds of the towns we went through garnered WAY better m/kWh numbers than normal for me. Now that it's cooled down a bit, I'm mostly over 5 m/kWh, but on this trip we got 6.5 going out and 6.6 coming home. Both of those days included a half day seeing the sights in St. Augustine. The middle day that was St. Augustine only was 5.4 m/kWh.

    What a great machine. (y)(y)(y)

Jerry, what is the third building in the set of pics above; not the Air B&B, I presume?

I know that lighthouse pretty well, as we stayed in St. Augustine a year ago for a week. Touristy, but a very interesting and beautiful old town. We drove there from Chicago and back. Some of the best local mileage (gas only, unfortunately) I've ever had in my Prime. I kept wondering if I'd see another Prime on the way there, back, or in Florida... nope.

That third pic is the city gates. Right across the street from the fort. [Edit to add] The Air B&B is the 1st picture.

I've never seen as many Prii as I saw in St. Augustine last week!! And I saw one Prime -- red like mine. We were sitting on a bench waiting for a trolley. I had to do a double-take because for a few seconds I suspected that someone managed to steal my car. But that one had custom wheels. WHEW!!

BTW, I enjoyed seeing your pictures. Really nice! Thanks for the links.

Must have missed the city gate from that side. Perhaps Toyota SE decided to let some Prii loose in those parts. Still, to this day, have only spotted about 5 Primes in/around Chicago in three years. In Vermont, you can pass that may in 15 minutes.

Same here, they're selling at least as many as regular 4th gen, I think.

Across the country, it's the majority of the sales..3:1 I think.

I probably see about one Prime a month here, but it might be two in the same day or a couple months in between. Sun Toyota, two miles from me, occasionally has one on the floor. I've talked to a few owners and they all special ordered them. But I'm sure lots of people go out of state or buy used from Tampa Hybrids. Todd usually as at least two Primes available these days, but so far, I've only seen 2017 MY there.

If it’s any indication, there are 3 Primes and one Gen 4 in the parking lot at work.

I was walking back to my car at work last week, and of the 12 charging spots, 6 of them were being used by Prius Primes.

It's a whole different world down here thanks to the SE Toyota distributors' aversion to Primes. But we do have gobs of regular Prii.

That's going to happen again in probably a week or so. Getting close to engine oil change time. Yesterday I bought the oil & filter. AND I made these. They're made from an 8' 2X10 (which fit perfectly into the car :D). The bottom pieces are 24" inches long. The tops are 20" long. I cut in half the remainder of the 2X10, but that proved to be a little too tall. It just fit under the car, but dragged when I got in. So I trimmed it down about 1-1/2" or so. The metal braces are cut from a left-over piece of 16 gauge steel I had. Total cost was a little over $8 not including the metal, paint, and the screws that I already had.

This should make getting both front wheels up off the ground a lot faster.

When I get under there, I think I'll pull off the whole panel again and look about a better lift point, but I don't think I'll find one. It'll also give me a chance to double-check that there is no seepage from the transaxle fill and drain plugs.

Yeah again, 3rd gen used that frontmost beam. On 4th gen there's no opening in the plastic panel there, and with no guidance that it's usable, it'd take a brave soul to test it. Could be they've reduced the gauge of material, and it doesn't have the reinforced jacking point either.

Those ramps look purty; is that 3" lift then? Hard to judge the scale.

I guess if you roll the jack through to the official jack point, and are able to get a little bit of lift, enough to get it started, you're away to the races. Our son's Mazda CX-5 is similar, but easier due to more ground clearance.

    Thanks!

Yes, it's 3". That's about twice the height I rigged up before when I did the transaxle oil which will give me a little more room to work the jack hanndle. These are heavy as heck, but the wood is still pretty green. They'll always be heavy, but, unlike me, ought to get a little lighter as they age. They are longer than needed, but hopefully this way I won't always be bumping up against the stops and maybe cracking them. I should probably reinforce those stops with plywood, but I think they'll hold up OK. They have several screws holding them.

Here’s a view of the underside:

What did you do to your Prime today?

    Nice ramps btw:).

I made ones for the Gen3 that I still have;).

Need to make ones similar to yours for the Prime(y).

You have a lot more self-control than me. Regardless of when the oil change is happening, test them out, see how it works with the floor jack, lol.
