I upgraded my 2012 Prius C-2's radio to the 2013 Prius C-3's nav radio. I bought the EchoMaster FC-Toyo as per your suggestion, but can't seem to get it to pick up the camera signal.

I took a look at the instruction manual here:
    https://echomaster.com/index.php?controller=attachment&id_attachment=862

It looks like I need to tap into ACC/IGN +12V for the camera. Do you recall where you tapped for 12V power? Did you have to follow the second page to include the reverse trigger pin?

Alright more updates to my saga of trying to add a backup camera to the C3 head unit in my 2012 C2. I paid a shop to pull ACC/IGN +12V (and ground) to power the EchoMaster FC-Toyo camera, and they also hooked up +12V reverse signal to Pin #2 on the 28 pin plug. Unfortunately, no luck on getting the head unit to recognize the radio.

I followed the steps listed on this installation guide to wire up the backup camera to the radio (with the exception of ACC/IGN +12V and Ground for the camera coming from the locations installed by the stereo shop, and I used a 1-Watt resistor instead of a 1/4-Watt resistor for the 470 Ohm resistor):
RyanFX's Blog: 2013 Prius C Factory Rear View Backup Camera Installation

Suggestion to anyone else trying this down the road: save yourself the hassle and make sure to buy a 6 Volt camera kit (PYvideo) instead of going with a 12 Volt camera kit (like the EchoMaster FC-Toyo), since it should be more straightforward to hook up (I think you can connect the 6-Volt ones directly to the radio, whereas the 12-Volt ones you need to find +12V to power it yourself).

The camera does indeed work, since I ran an extension cable to a TV and tested it that way.

I did notice when I got into the Vehicle Signal Check Mode (hold the Car button on the radio down while flashing the lights on-off three times) that the IG, PKB, and REV were all listed as "OFF" whereas in my Prius Plug-in they are all listed as "ON" when I'm in reverse with the parking brake up (plus the ADIM/TCAN shows as "DIM" whereas on my Prius Plug-in they show as "BRIGHT"). On the PriusC the camera settings are grayed out (but the Prius Plug-in doesn't have camera settings), which I assume has to do with the other information not coming in first. I do verify that the head unit is outputting +6V on G79-7 for the first minute (trying to "find" the backup camera, but it fails to do so even though the camera does get power that first minute). I got this information from Mik1's guide:
    Rearview Camera | Page 6 | PriusChat

I assume I need to follow the steps from wmo168 listed here (although a lot of the pictures were removed) in order to get the radio to talk to the car before it decides to accept the backup camera signal:
Wiring Diagram for Factory Nav Radio - looking for wires that feed(Energy Consumption and Trip info) | Page 2 | PriusChat

I think my next steps are to buy a subscription to the Toyota Technical Information System (TIS) to compare the wire diagrams between a C2 and a C3/C4 to figure out what I'm missing (basically following wmo168's instructions with more detail).

Unfortunately wmo168 has not been active here in a long time, but if there is anyone else that has successfully connected a backup camera to a 2012-2014 Prius C2 with a radio from a C3/C4 and can help me out, I would really appreciate any information that might help me wrap up this project.

I'm also trying to install backup camera on my 2015 Prius C three with Entune Gracenote Nav display.
So far I figured out that I need 28 pin rca cable(I150, I155 in the above file) to feed video from the regular 12v camera to be installed on the hatch. I'm planning to get power from reverse lamp power wire.

I found several video on Youtube on Prius c backup camera. It seems wiring on the hatch is a bit complicated.
I need to confirm and test whether my current plan works or not. I'm ordering a camera and 28 pin cable.

I will appreciate any input or tip regarding wiring.

    Thanks

I took the head unit from my 2015 Prius C three.
Connections are different from other ones I found here.
Any idea which connection is for video in?

See the Electrical Wiring Diagram (more info), or the Terminals of ECU pages in the Repair Manual, for the details, but it’s connector G83 (G89), the 24-position connector seen in the top row, towards the left side, with the black and red wires visible in the photo. The documentation shows only four wires connected: red (CB+) is the camera power supply (5.5 to 7.05 volts); black (CV+) and white (CV–) are the video signal; and the cable shield (yellow, at the camera) (CGND) is ground.

Thank you so much for input. You mean that video and power wires are already in place? How do I test or confirm these wiring?
Before my posting, I guessed that wiring might have already been in place and I might just have to connect the camera on the hatch. But I couldn't find any spare connectors in the hatch.

If I don't find the correct wires in the hatch just in case that there are these wires already placed, how should I connect wires to the 12v camera? Video signal comes from the camera is just one. Then black(CV+) should be connected to the video signal from the camera? I was thinking about getting power from reverse lamp(12v) for the camera. Then I read several postings that the head unit needs to identify video signals even before the reverse lamp power come on. How should I solve this issue using the camera power supply from CB+? Thanks.

If the camera needs constant power to create a constant signal for the head unit's benefit, then there's little point in taking 12v from the reverse lamp. Probably easier to cut the red wire @Elektroingenieur identified as the 6v power line and then merge the body end of it with the switched accessory power going into the stereo via the main 10-pin connector. Should be pin 3, gray wire. Don't forget to cap off/insulate the stereo end of that red wire. You'll still have to find the connector back in the hatch and splice it on to your new camera, but if you can find it I think that will make the project a lot easier!

I just want simple setting with backup camera during reverse mode only. What would be different form constant 12v? Thanks.

Wiring it the way I described in my prior post would do that. The camera would be receiving constant power, but the head unit would be ignoring its signal until you actually switch to reverse.

I suggested the insertion of 12v ACC power on that line in response to your comment about the head unit needing to identify video before a switch to reverse. (BTW that's something I had not run into and can't independently verify- I removed the factory head unit from our car, and our aftermarket replacement doesn't care.) I doubt it can identify anything without power to the camera.

The Parking Assist pages, in the System Circuit section of the Electrical Wiring Diagram, show that the connections from the head unit to the camera are not continuous wires; they are part of the instrument panel, floor, back door no. 1, and back door no. 2 wire harnesses. There are several versions of each harness, depending on the car’s grade, options, and destination sales area.

The G83 (G89) connector, seen in your photo, is part of the instrument panel wire harness, but its presence doesn’t imply that the other harnesses have the necessary wiring for the camera. You may find that the circuits end at a wire-and-wire connector, such as MG3, SM1, or ST1. Indeed, the Electronic Parts Catalog lists “BACK MONITOR-WITH” and “BACK MONITOR-WITHOUT” versions of the back door no. 1 and no. 2 wire harnesses. If your car has a “WITHOUT” version, it wouldn’t have connector T7 for the camera.

I should really try to find time to go through the Electrical Wiring Diagram and see if I can pick up where wmo168 left off. I thought about just giving up and buying a Carplay aftermarket head unit, but with my ProClip USA mount I'm pretty happy with the setup. I just want that darn backup camera to work on my C2 (heck I'd even be willing to pay if someone in California knew how to do it, I tried a shop but they gave up)...

I was just re-reading a few of your posts on this. It's a little confusing since there are a number of posters with different versions of the same problem all sharing the same thread.

So when you shift into reverse, you just get a black screen?

Nope. When I shift into reverse, nothing changes on the screen. I also went into the “secret” menu settings and it doesn’t look like the head unit from a C3/4 recognizes the car is shifted into reverse in my C2. The head unit also doesn’t behave correctly with the dimming switch by the steering wheel (as soon as the headlights are turned on, the screen dims, even if I have it set to full brightness). Hence I assume I need to wire somewhere to the back of the head unit for the head unit to register these events. (I am serious about paying the person who finally helps me get this darn backup camera working).

If you're willing to pay, take it to a fry's or a best buy and ask them to install it. You'll have a nest of wiring afterwards, but it should be right.

I took it to a stereo shop. They couldn't figure out how to get it working. They weren't able to get the head unit to detect the vehicle shifting into reverse. They assumed it was because the C2 is missing some wires that the C3/4 have.

It's blowing my mind that you're having this much difficulty even with LA county stereo shops involved. They were once the best on the planet.

I took on the project of upgrading my wife's 2012 Prius C Two with a 2012 Prius C entune with nav HU. I too ran into the 28 pin G78 pin 2 trigger wire not working conundrum. The best work around I found was on a Scion chat group. Turns out a lot of the wiring/ connectors as well as HU kernal are conserved. In short if the ADPG wire of G78 pin 25 is tied to pin 6 PKG GND of G79 and then these 2 are tied to car frame ground, this will result in a new A/V option appearing in the entune media source menu. The pins 13 (video signal) and 14 (video ground) of G78 are the input pins for this new A/V source and can be used from a backup camera or any other RCA signal (No need for a trigger signal). Below is the link to the original source with more details and a diagram. I hope this helps someone as this forum helped me with the upgrade. I found the trick for me to get the backup camera and also the CAN bus data for the hybrid/car info was:

Add switched 12v to pin #1 on the 28 pin (G78) connector.

After adding pins #9 and #10 for the CAN bus and pin #2 for the reverse signal, the HU would do nothing upon shifting into reverse. Adding 12v to pin #1 did the trick and now all function perfectly.
