In my case, cleaning was not a factor because I didn't anything to the car (wipe, clean, wash...) after I received that
warning message. It just went away after getting a sun tan.

This happened to me on the way home after buying the car (2020 Prime Limited) -- never drove it before this. The warning came on and stayed on during heavy rain and just before arriving home the warning disappeared. Had the car now 3 weeks and no re-occurrence of the warning. This was quite unnerving after just taking delivery. Somewhat useful to learn that this has occurred for others and that it can/should disappear after drying out.

It happened to me in a heavy rainstorm shortly after I bought the car last year. Once it dried out, it never happened again in the rain. Snow, ice & salt are another story, but that means the sensors are actually dirty and need to be wiped off.

Is this the exterior of the car or part of the car that you can't see where the sensors are? You or the people who refer this problem as having "dirty sensors". You guys must be referring to somewhere I can't see because my car wasn't dirty at all on the exterior.
Like I said, I didn't even wash, wipe or clean the exterior when I got the warning. It just went away on its own.

2020 Prime Limited Edition with only 3 weeks old, yeah I'd be too ...

I am going to stop by a local Toyota dealer this weekend and ask them about this. Though I don't have
a high expectation to get the real answer. They probably will ask me to contact Toyota Head Qtr
which they may not even know the real answer either. Getting the right info from them can be
difficult. Try ask/talk to them about different home charging options, cable, power outputs
    for the Prime.

They are those nickel sized circular things on your front and rear bumpers. Different trim levels have different numbers of them. My Advanced has 12.

Yes, I'm aware of those 'circular" thing on the front/back bumpers. But what I'm really asking is this: when the
message "Clean Parking Assist Sensor" is displayed, is it asking you to wipe/clean these 'ciricular' spots on the plastics?
I didn't doing anything. I didn't touch them/wipe/clean any of them. There was NOTHING to clean after driving
through the heaving rain this past Monday.

Let me clarify: the first time it happened, the sensors were not dirty. It was due to the heavy rainfall. That was the cause only once. The next time it happened, I was driving in dirty, slushy snow, and the sensors actually were dirty. Wiping them off solved the problem. Check the manual for sensor placement.

Well I guess I shall find out next time when I go through heavy downpours.

See if this warning comes on again.

It may never happen again for that reason, but you may have to clean them in the Jersey snow

Happened to me again... (I've had it happen twice before)

Car was parked and it rained. I got in the car (not raining) and it was beeping at me saying I was too close to something in front of me (nothing in front of me). Then I got the clean sensors message. Went out and wiped both front sensors (does the w- band radar play a role? ) and it didn't do anything. They weren't dirty to begin with too be honest.

After driving for a few minutes it went away and every thing is back to normal.

I wonder if water is getting in somewhere and shorting a circuit? What could be causing this?

I have owned my 2017 Prius since December 2016. Every time it rains a lot, I get the long beep then "ICS Unavailable" and then the photo below for the remainder of the trip. I wipe all the sensors off when I stop, which could be several minutes or hours, and sometimes it goes away and sometimes it does not. The next day, when dry, it works fine.

My concern, as others, is, you would think it would work all the time, especially in the rain. When it does rain is when I trust my car the least. It appears my blind spot monitors still work but I am not sure exactly what is working and what is not working. In heavy rain, I do not turn on cruise control since I want to be in control of the car, so not sure if this is affected. The other issue is, you can't hit the back button to remove the message since it will just show up a few minutes later.

Wouldn't be nice if when this message came up, the sensor in question was red or some indication of which sensor is having the problem?

Yes, but that display doesn't really mark the sensor locations. There's not one in the center of the bumper (the radar is a separate system). It's more just a representation of the system.

There are 2 facing forward, 2 on either side of the bumper facing ~45deg, 2 on the fenders,
2 on the side of the rear bumper near the quarter panels, 2 on either side of the rear bumper facing ~45deg, and 2 on the rear bumper facing backward.

I agree it should ID the sensor though. I haven't had an issue since I last posted, but whenever it happens, water is always involved and the sensor is clean

My wife has a 2017 hybrid rav 4. She has never had this issue. She thinks I’m having problems because the Prius rides lower to the ground and gets more grime and dirt from the road when the rain splashes on the sensors. Just a thought.

Had a good bit of rain yesterday and this morning I got the message.. This is freaking annoying!!

  16. I’ve put my hybrid through many high-pressure touchless car washes, all kinds of white winter hell (two seasons), multiple ice storms, temps down to -10F... once the ice is off, the ICS has always bounced back. A few times heavy rain will confuse the sensors, but it’s infrequent.

I have never had a car where parking sensor would go crazy after rain or car wash... and I have had many. Really not sure how this is happening on so many Prius.

(This is kind of a personal log). Happened to me again today... light rain. No issues until I braked. I think water is getting behind the sensor somehow. It indicated my front was dirty. Not sure which (or both) of the fronts it meant, but they arent dirty. Im 99%sure it will go away once the car drys off.

Anyone know if Toyota has a solution or tsb for this?

I wonder what it says when it's the rear sensors.

Maybe Toyota did something on 2020 Prime for this issue.
I have had it for 2 months with several winter rains and power washes, but no such issue.... yet.
