I was going to have Toyota do this but the time it will take to have the part shipped in is ridiculous (6 weeks). How hard is it to DIY this? I have access to a 2nd gen parts car, could I just rip the ECU from there and chuck it in mine, or is it not that easy? Cheers

See my posting from earlier this month about battery ECU replacement. A battery ECU salvaged from a newer (but still second-generation, 2004–2009) car should work in an older one, but I don’t know about the reverse.

Ah heck, the one I can pull parts from is a 2007 or 8 and mine is a 2009. Thanks anyway, this will be a looooong 6 weeks.

It might be worth checking the part number: 89890-47092 is the latest version, used in new production from April 2007, and it should work in all second-generation Prius cars.

Were you successfully able to scan the OBD2 port for DTCs?

Which stored code(s) came back, and how do you know it needs another battery control ECU?
