2017 Four Touring says "TOYOTA, AGC Automotive, DOT-20 M8141 AS1, 10A, Lamisafe". Nothing at all on our 2007 Touring, although it was replaced by Safelite a couple of years ago.

    Me too Dave.
I think it might be to do with the compound, a softer compound will be quieter when the treads flex and as the tread wears lower the tread will be stiffer, creating a different resonant frequency. As to whether this makes them noisier or quieter depends on the individuals hearing and their sensitivity to different frequencies I guess.

The images I posted are from chief engineer Koji Toyoshima's presentation given at the Gen 4 launch in 2015 (slides 39 and 40 here). It applies to all Gen 4, until Toyota redesigns the car (if they redesign it; the recent product planning leak suggests the Prius won't continue after Gen 4).

Edit: Better quality images in the links here.

I still say, forget the tires, or the special windshield. Use some sound deadener and be done with it.

I haven’t heard otherwise. The CorollaCross would fill in the gap for previous Prius v owners who don’t want a RAV4 Hybrid.

The Prius typically has a 6-year lifespan (too long imo) which means a redesign won’t be launched until MY2022 at the earliest which is the farthest down the line on that leak (only the Tundra and Tacoma were mentioned that far down the line).

No, the leak claims several new Lexus models in 2022 and 2023 and then a new Camry and Tacoma in 2024 (this information was in the ACN post accompanying the images from the dealer slideshow). With the Sienna going hybrid, a new crossover hybrid, the RAV4 Prime coming next year, the Corolla hybrid, and falling Prius sales, it doesn't look good for the Prius. Also, Gen 2 spanned 5 model years; Gen 3 was supposed to span 5 model years with Gen 4 in 2015, but it was rushed into a redesign at the last moment and delayed to MY2016.

I understand. I've read that leak. The new crossover hybrid is probably going to be a Venza Hybrid (Fall 2020) but the other crossover is the CorollaCross.

The Gen 2 spanned 6 model years - 2004 to 2009 inclusive. The Gen 3 spanned 6 model years - 2010 to 2015. The Gen 4 was delayed by half a year IIRC.

I'm just saying, the Yaris, Corolla and Avalon were not mentioned, along with the Prius. It doesn't mean those 3 are being discontinued. (Although the Yaris does have the highest likelihood).

But I agree, the Prius brand doesn't have its strength due to the RAV4 Prime and the Corolla Hybrid as you've stated. So the Gen 5 needs to really stand out and I don't know if Toyota is willing to go straight into Prime and EV offering or whether it will continue to offer a stand-alone hybrid. If the Prius becomes more "normal", then what should it be? a sedan? I don't think so since the Corolla and Camry will have that covered. A hatchback? well it certain helps keep its niche since there isn't a hatchback in that price range in the Toyota lineup or in the marketplace. A wagon? a more traditional one instead of the v? That's a possibility.

Yep. My 2016 Eco is loud, and I spend a lot of time in it. Excited to install the Noico system as soon as I get the chance. It’s fairly inexpensive, especially compared to Dynamat. 3 kits will run me about $220 on Amazon, but I figure it’s totally worth it. Just a bit squirrelly about taking my car interior apart, not savvy with that stuff. YouTube only takes me so far. Can’t wait for the finished product, tho.

My 2022 L Eco is a pretty comfortable drive, noise-wise. It came stock with the Toyo Nanoenergy tires, which I keep at 39 psi in the front and 36 psi in the rear per the sticker.

I came from a fully-loaded 2016 Dodge Journey and I always thought that was a fairly noisy vehicle (mostly coming from the engine, the tires always felt quiet).

We also own a 2021 Siena LE, which is very quiet although it's more noticeable when the ICE is running vs our Prius.
