Why buy everything from Amazon? You can buy it from eBay for one sixth of the price at Amazon—20¢ for battery, like $2 for a ten pack.

Interesting to see this topic in circulation again. Here's a write-up on the differences from a dozen years ago.

I remember I was astonished at how different the two specification systems are: for one, you have to know the tire size to know where to start in the lookup table, and knowing the load index is the same as knowing the construction (standard or XL reinforced), and the two constructions for a given tire size have the same load capacities at any pressure 35 psi or under.

In the other system, you don't have to know the size to enter the table, but you do have to know the construction independently because the load index doesn't directly tell you; and within a given tire size, load capacities are not the same at equal pressures between the two construction types.

It's almost like the TRA and the ETRTO were in a game to see how completely different they could make two systems using terms that look the same.

It was no help either that, at least back at that time, TireRack's web site trimmed the P from tire size displays, and would list P-metric and Euro-metric tires mixed together indiscriminately. I think they might have fixed that since.

Salamander_King put a pic on page one with 35+34+34+34

I have to say that having the Front left different like that ... well let's just say I'd have to deal with it.

And you know what'd happen right? I'd let a little air out, but it'd be too much and I'd have to put a pound back in

They usually list the expiration dates on eBay. You can pay a little more, like 50¢ a piece and get a fresher battery. They sell name brands like Energizer, Panasonic, and Maxell as well.

    Super.

The moral of the story was you were recommending buying counterfeit batteries on Ebay at $2.

Or, if they aren't counterfeit they are probably all the ones that failed QC at the factory.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. eBay does not work like that. They will ban you from eBay if you sell counterfeit or defective products, and you will lose your entire business.

This seller has 170,185 ratings and is 99.1% recommended. The ten-pack CR1632 he is selling at 22¢ a piece is rated 4.5 stars. Counterfeit? Junk? Really? Learn about how eBay works before you post nonsense like this.

Don't you sell your plug-adapter cables on eBay? It is a very reliable platform. Sure, there are bad sellers and buyers occasionally, but they usually get kicked out fast. That particular seller and battery both seem quite decent, given the experience of the seller and the rating on the product, as long as you're planning to use it within the two-year expiration remaining. By the way keeping the batteries in the refrigerator extends their shelf lives greatly regardless of the battery-chemistry type, as it slows down the chemical reaction. Put them in a ziplock bag or a container and stick them into the fridge.

In fact the battery company Tianqui is certified for ISO 9001:2000 among others, and they are the OEM manufacturer for Mitsubishi batteries. They certainly make neither counterfeit nor low-quality batteries.

Guangdong TIANQIU Electronics Technology Co. Ltd.

My overall experience with eBay has usually been very good or excellent. For example I was able to upgrade an entire computer system for about $100, and there was a problem with the memory compatibility, which was a very subtle issue regarding the number of the memory chips on the DIMM, which would be unknown to 99% of people including computer experts, yet the seller had no problem exchanging it with a compatible memory of the same memory size with more memory chips (less memory per chip). Out of dozens of purchases I've made, there have been few regrets, and US sellers are particularly reliable. I shop both Amazon Prime and eBay depending on what I am buying. In fact I just bought a North American cosmic-black Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G from B&H Photo instead of Amazon because after reading the reviews on Amazon I saw that they often sell open-box phones as new, and I didn't want to spend $1,200 (currently selling at $1,400) to get an open-box phone but chose the always-reliable B&H Photo instead. All these online shopping vendors and others have their places depending on what you're getting.

Now, if only my 2020 Prius Prime XLE had Android Auto, but nevertheless, I didn't want to compromise with the iPhone. LOL

Last I knew, eBay did not even provide a way for the necessary information to be reported for them to enforce such a policy as you imagine. In fact their complaint reporting system was designed to ensure such information never reached them.

If there was a vendor selling a large quantity of counterfeit or defective products as a numbers game, where they don't mind sending refunds back, as a cost of doing business, to the proportion of buyers who notice and call them on it, then if you were one of those buyers and you tried to report it, you would notice eBay's reporting form takes you exactly as far as did you buy the thing?, did the seller replace or refund the thing?, ok then what possible problem is there? and has no option to continue with a report. In their contact info and their automated reporting forms, there was simply no way of telling them that a vendor was consistently selling from a stock of flaky parts and just using refunds when caught.

Now, the information above is from when I encountered it first hand five years ago; if eBay has since changed their reporting mechanisms so they are no longer blind to such possibilities by construction, good on them.

In your particular case, the seller never claimed that the product was the OEM Toyota part. It said it "replaced the Toyota OEM part # XXXXX-XXXXX," which means it was an aftermarket part. Aftermarket parts are not considered counterfeit and/or defective. If they don't perform as well as the OEM parts, which often happens, also when you buy them from brick-and-mortar auto stores, you are bound with the seller's return, exchange, and refund policy. eBay must honor both the seller's and buyer's rights, as it's a third-party platform that serves both. The seller did nothing wrong in this case buy selling you an aftermarket part, which did say so in writing. Therefore, you are bound with the terms of the purchase, whatever they are. If the part didn't fit and you broke it while trying to make it fit, of course it cannot be returned.

You did not read much of the content linked in #134. If you did skim the second linked post, partway down you saw a small broken-image icon like this one:

because PriusChat's forum software stopped correctly displaying SVG after that post was made.

A post was added at the end of that thread this year that contains the same SVG file as an attachment, so you can still see what the facts were.

The seller was selling parts that had been assembled with an internal component missing. Other buyers participated in the same thread and confirmed also being sold parts that had been mis-assembled in the same way. All of them could be detected as defective using a simple bench test with a multimeter for the required functionality of the part.

It's nice what you say about "don't perform as well as the OEM parts, which often happens", but it would be relevant to some other story, not that one.

While we're piling hate on eBay, they've started doing a thing where the title on a Google search result will say one thing, but when you click on it, it will take you to a totally different thing. For example if you're looking for a phone charger (made up example), the Google search result might say "Apple Genuine USB iPhone Charger", but if you click on the link it might take you to something like "White Cube Charger for Apple iPhone, 2.4A", which is not exactly what you were looking for.

I like eBay slightly more than Amazon (don't get me started on them), but you do have to be extremely careful as a buyer.

And I have bought ultra cheap stuff like those batteries in the past. But at this point in my life I'm happy to pay slight more for a quality product from a quality source, if I can find it.

Cute animation. It works in Google Chrome.

Perhaps the seller knew the part had a problem; perhaps they didn't. Again, whenever you buy an aftermarket part, this could happen, and you're bound with the seller's return policy. If many people bought the part and had the same problem, this would show in the product's review, owner satisfaction, and seller's review, which you should check before you buy it.

I recently discussed the ISO metric vs. P metric cold inflation pressure vs. load translation here in this thread. It is somewhat complicated as the cold inflation pressure also depends on the load rating of the tire (91T etc.). If you don't want to learn and be bothered with the calculation that requires multiple parameters and even some interpolation, stick with the type of tire (ISO metric or P metric) and load rating for it that came with your car.
