Front plastic replacement- near the hood or around emblem

@jerrymildred has tried removing it; I believe he found some sort of welded plastic connections at some point, had to stop.

Have you found a separate part number for that piece, that would be a clue that it's doable.

 

If you are talking about the clear acrylic on the front grill, then it is a part of grill sub-assembly parts. AFAIK, it's not sold separately, and removing it intact may be difficult.

Someone (@Salamander_King ?) provided a PDF showing the steps but it was written in Japanese. I annotated it with English. It's what I used to help me remove mine. Removal and installation were easy. I just wasn't able to patch it like I'd intended. I hope this file isn't too big for the forum.

 

If you've read @jerrymildred post from the link up to #608, you can see taking off the the entire front grille sub-assembly is not very hard. I think he commented somewhere how long it took him to accomplish this. I had a crack on the clear acrylic part as shown on the photo below of my previous 2017 PRIME. Since the acrylic part was not sold separately, the cost to fix just this crack was ~$500 for the parts alone. But yeah, my biggest concern was damaging other part of the grille or worse the sensors while I am trying to remove this. And even if I succeeded the replacement, it is the same very fragile plastic that will be subjected to many flying objects on the roads. The same crack will develop in no time. In the end, I ended up doing nothing to repair or replace this crack and just traded in the 2017 PRIME to the 2020 PRIME. The thing was, the trade cost less than what would have cost me to repair this crack professionally.

Now, I have a brand new PRIME with same "glass-jaw" front grille, I am thinking of somewhat protecting the acrylic part by either wrapping or painting it. But I have not got to it yet.

Something tells me you skimmed the writeup rather than reading it since you ask questions that are in the original description. I have no idea why you would need to patch it. You didn't say why you want to replace it either. I said in my post that I was hoping to patch mine because a bird broke it. My reasons for not replacing it are the same as @Salamander_King stated above.

It was very easy to do. There were two plugs for turn signals, one for the radar. That's far from a lot of plugs. You should have seen what I had to do to replace the solid state drive in a 2017 iMac!

Taking something apart always takes longer the first time as you experiment with what needs to be done. If I wanted to remove it again, it would probably take less than 30 minutes.

Sooooo ... why do you want to replace the grill?

In your region, the current rebate on 2020 PRIME stands at $4000. 2021 models are not out yet, and when they are out, it seems only LE models are going to have the Android Auto. That means you will have to downgrade your Advanced trim down to LE base model. It is not certain what kind of rebates Toyota will have on 2021 models, but I suspect a similar amount as the 2020 models maybe not right away but by the end of model year for sure.

I traded in my 2017 PRIME Premium model with 40K miles on it (and a crack on the grill as shown on the photo) at $16900 and purchased a new 2020 PRIME LE model at $17400+tax and fees after an eventual fed tax credit of $4502. My final out of pocket cost is ~$1000. That is cheaper than repairing the grill. In fact, I was due to replacing the set of tires and my 2-year TOYOTA Care service period was over, so including what would have cost me to buy a set of tires and pay for the five (2 years) maintenance services (mainly Oil change), I saved money by trading in my old 2017 PRIME. And most importantly, I got a brand new 2020 PRIME without 11.6-inch display and SofTex seats I hated in my previous PRIME Premium.

 

I think 1/3 of depreciation in 3 years is about average. Maybe not for all Toyota vehicles, but certainly that much of depreciation is very normal for most cars. When I leased a new car, I always go by 1/3 rule. If I am paying more than 1/3 of the new car value in 3 years lease, then it is not a good one.

"On Star System" is for GM cars. Toyota calls its system Safety Connect. What I read in this forum is that 2021 PRIME Limited and XLE still get 3 free years of subscription with Verizon? AT&T is only for the LE head unit. But Android Auto is only for the LE model only and not for XLE or Limited. I was not interested in either feature. In fact, the very first thing I did after I purchased my 2020 PRIME LE was to cancel the Safety Connect complimentary subscription. Android Auto (or CarPlay) is another feature I don't use in my car.

 

I use black electric tape it works great and blends in pretty well for all the front cracks

 

I wonder if something like Novis windshield chip repair could work.
