I own a 2020 Prime Limited, purchased new in May, currently with 3,000 miles. Over the course of these four months, the multimedia has Spontaneously shut down four or five times. The screen goes black and then it reboots itself within a few seconds. The map and audio come back on like nothing happened. Anyone else experience this? Do I need to push a software update or something, or should I take it to the dealer?

Are you connected to your car via Bluetooth at a time?
At least one user tried a software upgrade to no avail and ended up having his unit replaced.
At least get a record with the dealer that you’re having a problem.

Me thinks it could be an incompatibility issue with a smartphone. Maybe model specific. Just a wag.

it has nothing to do with Bluetooth connections. It happens to me when my iPhone is connected, my Android is connected, or both connected (one as phone, other as audio player), or no phones are connected.

Oh no, so this is a whole thing then. I read through the other thread. I guess I should be glad it is only happening once every few weeks for me. I have an iPhone X connected via Bluetooth. My phone is updated. I will try to download the software update mentioned in the other thread, and then try deleting and reinstalling my phone. At this point, I’d rather put up with it than waste my time with repeated trips to the dealer for them to tell me they can’t do anything to fix it. Hopefully my issue won’t get any more frequent. I love everything else about my car, but it’s pretty ridiculous that this has been going on for years without resolution.

Check the current version of the software installed on your 11.6 inch display. The latest version for 2020 Prime Limited is R20A2300. Procedure for checking current version is listed in this document. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10174878-9999.pdf
If your version is not the latest, try printing out that document from Toyota and bringing it to the dealer. The document specifically mentions fixes for crash/reboot issues. They may have access to the 16TABDNA-AA02_3000.kwi update file that is needed for the 2020 since nobody else has been able to locate it yet. It's most likely only available to techinfo subscribers. Please report back with your findings. If the dealer manages to locate the update file and it resolves the issue, a lot of other 2020 Prime Limited owners will be interested.

Just curious, is this re-boot problem specific to 11.6" display only? Have similar problem reported for the 7" HU in the Plus or LE models?

In my 2017 Prime Premium, I never had re-boot happening on the HU for 2.5 years I have owned. But to be fair, I had the screen off most of the time, and I have never installed Entune App on my phone, nor did any update.

It definitely seems to be much worse on the 11.6" display based on the amount of complaints about it on PriusChat. There are updates for the 7" display that claim to address reboot issues, but I haven't researched those updates extensively since they don't apply to me and nobody seems to be looking for help with it. I believe the 7" display is manufactured by Panasonic and is getting Android Auto in 2021 while the 11.6" display from Denso seems less reliable and isn't getting Android Auto. The LE is looking better and better!
