Hi I have a 2020 Prime Limited I purchased in March. 1459 miles total. On several occasions including today, I noticed that the main center console screen will go blank then restart as I am driving away from my home. Pretty startling to hear the startup music while you are driving. Not sure this is a safety issue, as I did not notice any loss in engine power. Other symptoms is the navigation also resets. My Sirius Satelllite Radio station presets are not lost. I read somewhere about this being an Iphone issue. The only thing is that I left my phone at home so this restart issue is independent of the phone. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

“Intermittent rebooting” is one of the problems supposedly fixed by a software update released on April 1; see my September 29 posting for more about it.

Some people say this is due to conflicts with iPhones. Do you have an iPhone paired with the car?
    Thanks

I don't know about @hox, but my iPhone is paired with my Prime and the screen never reboots. But, I've read there can be issues if it's paired AND you plug the phone into the data port at the same time. I haven't tried it to see if it affects my car since I don't really need to know if it would affect my car. I probably should try that sometime, though, just so I know.

As we C-max owners learned to say about our microsoft powered screens when this happened, "That's not a bug, it's a feature!". :D

So I took the car to the dealership and they checked my firmware on my car. Its firmware is up to date and matches the software update listed in the previously discussed (above) TSB. The technician was very knowledgeable about this issue and said it is affecting all their cars with the larger screen and NAV system. He said the solution they have found is to delete my contacts and unpair my phone phone from the car.

I told him that the most recent reboot of the car Nav system occurred when my phone was not even in the car. He said it was caused not by having a paired phone but if you paired a phone AND added your contacts. He said that the software on the Prius is not compatible with the way Apple's most recent OS update changed a few things. He shared his thoughts that Toyota cannot keep up with the software updates on Apple or Android phones and so any smooth integration of the device with the car is going to have issues. Apparently it gets worse if you are using a USB connection.

Maybe, but I think my specific problem also tells us that a general incompatibility must exist between the software running the JBL NAV system on their cars and Apple products. My screen reboots occur without a phone in the car, and with a contact list loaded in March. There is no way a IOS update made in October triggers this if the phone is not in the car and the contact list was provided one time in March. It is more plausible that there is a general incompatibility with Apple devices. Not sure is Android devices have a similar issue.

Computer operating system updates can cause some issues with some programs too. However the end user usually can opt to roll back the operating system or obtain a hotfix for the issue. What does not happen is a software update causes the whole system to randomly reboot. Toyota needs to identify the bug and if they are the developers of this software, provide a fix or pay the third party group who developed this software to patch this bug. The deletion of my contact list as a work around to keep the Nav system from rebooting is unacceptable. This is a 2020 car with hands free calling from a contact list advertised as feature.

I am glad I have a paper record of this problem.

This has nothing to do with any phone. I have both an iPhone and an Android paired with mine, and I've experienced these reboots regardless which phone, one or both, is currently connected. I've also experienced them with no phone connected (but still paired), and with all phones deleted and thus nothing paired or connected.
This type of issue seems more like what I would have expected with a GM, but I thought I bought a Toyota!
