prius starts and dies

For starters, the way the HV battery spins the motor gives the impression the engine starts and dies, but in truth the engine never starts, it's just that HV battery spins it faster than a normal starter does on a regular car.

Do you have any error codes? How do the spark plugs look? What were the symptoms leading up to the engine not starting?

 

Does the car have enough gas? Try putting in a few gallons

 

Thanks a lot. Initially it didn't have gas or just had one square showing on dashboard.

 

I will check on codes. I filled up the tank and will check if it works

 

That's how I fixed the kids car, the one listed needs tow, bad battery bad transmission. I added 2 gallons of gas and put a jump pack on it and drove it home. Kids been driving it ever since Awesome car

The last fuel bar light will not go out..even when the tank is empty.

 

So meaning that when prius dies of gas I need to feel up the tank?the codes it was showing me had something to do with throttle body an I have already ordered a new one online an hoping to get it soon.

 

When you run out of gas on a gen 2 car, you usually have to put 3+ gallons in for the car to run properly again. The fortune cookie codes only tells you the computer detected a problem in a certain area, it doesn't go through diagnostics to see if there are other issues that caused that detection.

 

Whenever I try to start the car I smell gas. It's like it gets around throttle body but never burns.i replaced plugs.

 

These are the codes my prius is showing. I replaced throttle body but in vain.its full tank. I put a capacitor at the cluster as it would go black at times.

 

Most of those OBD2 codes (DTCs) aren't related to a gen2 Prius.. "Turbo Charged Control Circuit Malfuction" ? (don't think so).

That OBD2 code reader or App is suspect at best, not all OBD2 scanners are toyota hybrid compatible, many DIYers prefer to use a 'Mini-VCI' cable (usd 20) and techstream (dealer technician software) installed on a windows device. Others get by with using a App like Dr Prius or Hybrid Assistant, read up on the required adapters for either App here : Hybrid battery diagnostic and repair tool for Toyota and Lexus

Good job replacing the cap(s) in the dash/combination meter.

 

I think I also have a gas problem with my C tomorrow I'll check the fuel pump
